I really don't have a favorite poet is Patricia Doherty Hinnebusch. You can view one of Pat's Poems here; www.lmdougherty.com/SipapuArchive/Spring2006/Poems/deflections.htmMy favorite poem is most definitely Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe. It's been my favorite for over 40 years now. It was many and many a year ago, In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child, In this kingdom by the sea: But we loved with a love that was more than love - I and my Annabel Lee; With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago, In this kingdom by the sea, A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee; So that her high-born kinsmen came And bore her away from me, To shut her up in a sepulchre In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in heaven, Went envying her and me - Yes! that was the reason (as all men know, In this kingdom by the sea) That the wind came out of the cloud one night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we - Of many far wiser than we - And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling -my darling -my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea - In her tomb by the sounding sea.

.... I'm not sure where the TOS stands on reposting whole poems (copyright and all)... maybe edit to have just one verse and a link to the poem?

.... I'm not sure where the TOS stands on reposting whole poems (copyright and all)... maybe edit to have just one verse and a link to the poem? I think that Edgar Allan Poe's work is all in the public domain now, so they're shouldn't be copyright issues. That said, I could be wrong about that...

In general, if you figure that a copyright is good for 70 years after the death of the author... then you are relatively safe in reusing it. This is especially true when you are reposting an old poem, or article, on such things as Internet Message Boards. Works Originally Created and Published or Registered before January 1, 1978Under the law in effect before 1978, copyright was secured either on the date a work was published with a copyright notice or on the date of registration if the work was registered in unpublished form. In either case, the copyright endured for a first term of 28 years from the date it was secured. During the last (28th) year of the first term, the copyright was eligible for renewal. The Copyright Act of 1976 extended the renewal term from 28 to 47 years for copyrights that were subsisting on January 1, 1978, or for pre-1978 copyrights restored under the Uruguay Round Agreements Act (URAA), making these works eligible for a total term of protection of 75 years. Public Law 105-298, enacted on October 27, 1998, further extended the renewal term of copyrights still subsisting on that date by an additional 20 years, providing for a renewal term of 67 years and a total term of protection of 95 years.Poe died in 1849, any copyrights on his works expired by the time the 20th century rolled around. Even so, it is permissable to reprint selected poems, but if you tried reprinting his entire works as one collection then you may run into problems. Since no copyright laws were infringed upon, Proboards TOS isn't a problem. In actuality you can reprint whole books on the Proboard system ... if the item is not copyrighted or you have permission from the author to do so.
