The Killing Floor starts off in a diner........ does it say something like he's sat in a diner when 6 aremed cops turn up and take him away buecause he's the only stranger in town and there's been a murder?
If you can't find it I'd be happy to send you my copy

Among other things (I'm trying to finish all the books I left in the middle of when I went back to college last term) I'm reading a book on dog care. Since the emotional pleading approach isn't working on my parents, I thought the logical approach might.

I just started The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. So far, it's pretty good.

Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of my all-time favorite authors--ever. I love The House of Seven Gables--even more than The Scarlet Letter, I think.

Well I'll have to read that then, if I like this book.

Yeah, I read Scarlet Letter first and that's what got me interested in his other stuff. Seven Gables is now the most dog-eared and used book I own. Along with a few others that are noticeably favorites when you look at them. If you like this one I know you'll like the other one.

ummm yeh does that count? I'm having a hard time finishing the 2nd Lee Child book, not as fast moving as the first and the characters don't grab you the same. But if I start a book I have to finish it I can't just leave it because it drives me nuts

Good excuse, I'd say.
I stopped reading the Scarlet Letter. It's pretty slow. I think I'll read it when I don't have a deadline. So now I'm reading 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho. Much faster and a good story.

Yeah, Hawthorne's quite slow in places, but that's the style of the times. I'm currently reading, "Nor Crystal Tears" by Alan Dean Foster and a book on the history of world languages. I'm quite into the Foster and really enjoying it (it's my "substitute teaching" book, as I call it). I just started the other one today, but it's quite promising.
