I know we have threads discussing our Favourite and least Favourite Seasons, but as I'm re-watching Season 2 (as I kept telling everyone constantly ) I thought it made sense to give it its own space. Anyway, what did you like & Dislike about it, what quotes, scenes stand out?. Angel comes down the stairs and over to stand behind Xander. Xander: Angel, Angel, Angel. Does every conversation we have have to come around to that freak? (notices Angel) Hey, man, how you doin'? Angel: Buffy. Buffy: Angel. Xander: (in a deep Sarcastic Voice) Xander! (shakes his head) One of The only things I liked about Reptile Boy! haha

It has to be Passion. The speech, the drama, Angelus. I love it. Reptile Boy, Inca Mummy Girl, Go Fish? *sigh* Oh dear.
Innocence and Becoming are obvious classics. I really liked the scenes with Angelus being his malevolent best. And Becoming Part 2...I mean the soppiness now wears a bit thin but at the time when I first watch it, it was purely weepsome.

Trying to avoid going into a lengthy post right now, I'll keep it simple for now. What do I like? Angelus. Plain and simple. The Buffy/Angel lover in me liked most of their scenes together. I still find it really endearing that Angel who's over 240 years old is completely new to love and doesn't know exactly what to do about it. I always found that really sweet.
Really, though, it's Angelus. I just love that guy. He brought so much to the show and that twist is amazing. Having Buffy's love who had just recently become a more concrete member in the gang suddenly turn evil after they make love for the first time--it's so heart breaking and unexpected.
Passion is an absolutely amazing episode. I agree that really shows him at his malevolent best. Innocence and Becoming also stand out. Any scene with Angelus in it was great--never a boring moment with him.
Favorite lines? There are a ton. Basically Angelus quotes, of course. Passion speech is fantastic, his confrontation with Buffy in Innocence, his mini speech to Spike in Innocence...anything he says really...
This was suppossed to be short...

I'm always torn between whether season 2 or 3 is my favourite. Season 2 has some brilliant episodes, and is where the show really came into itself, but season 3 has the entire Faith saga (and Faith's the most interesting character, IMO). But since this is a season 2 thread, I'll keep to that I really liked When She Was Bad. I think the episode was the first time that Joss and co taught the audience about consequences. Buffy died at the end of season 1, and the whole Master ordeal screwed her up. While you could say that she was OOC throughout the episode, there was a reason for it. Some Assembly Required, Inca Mummy Girl, and Reptile Boy were terrible. On the upside, we got School Hard mixed in, breaking up the crap. Halloween was fun, and I'll probably upset a couple of people by saying I enjoyed Lie to Me. We had the convenient friend we'd never heard of before, but the story did hold a little gravity. The next episode, The Dark Age was also great. A bit of history about Giles, with the whole Ripper angle, and Ethan Rayne. Nuff said. What's My Line, parts one and two were great. Kendra was fun, and is the source of many amusing quotes, thanks to her accent mixed from just about any language under the sun. And then we're subjected to Ted, and Bad Eggs. The less said about these two, the better. But at least Ted had John Ritter! Surprise and Innocence, with Angel becoming Angelus once again, remain two of the better episodes of Buffy's run. Great stuff, and it makes you feel for the characters. You go from worrying about Angel at the end of Surprise, to wanting him dead by the end of Innocence. Phases is okay. Not among the best of the season, but not among the worst. An important chapter with Oz, you learn to love the dude, but that's where it ends. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered is one of the funniest episodes of the season. One of my favourite episodes of the season (and all time) is Passion, and the death of Jenny. We see Angelus as a soulless SOB, and your heart breaks for Giles. I also really liked Jenny (she was a perfect foil for Giles), so it was particularly upsetting to see her go. Killed by Death and I Only Have Eyes for You aren't great episodes, but they're still decent entertainment. Go Fish, on the other hand, is only saved by Jonathan's reference to peeing in the pool. And then we get Becoming, parts 1 and 2. Amazing, beautiful, painful stuff (and a little piece of trivia - Natasha Stott-Despoja's favourite Buffy episodes), with Buffy finally taking down Angelus and sending him to Hell. Seconds after he's regained his soul. "Buffy?" is a simple quote, which sums up the entire season.

I think season 2 has to be the best season, in my opinion. The whole arc in that season was awesome and it was played out really well. Joss created a great villian in Angelus and I love that Angelus and Buffy had a connectiong (through Angel - it made the season extra special. I don't know why but I like seeing Buffy going through tough times and being tortured by the writers. Though there were some crappy episodes, the rest made up for it. What I can't get, though, is why Go Fish was smacked at the end of the season where things were just heating up. It broke the rhythme and it's probably the main reason why I didn't like that episode very much. I probably go on and on raving about this season so I probably won't. But I have to say that I quite like Ted. I like mentioned earlier, I like seeing Buffy struggle and going through the phases of life. Ted showed a different side of Buffy. The writers never dealt with the issue of Buffy killing an innocent before this so it's really good that they brought the issue up. It was great to see Buffy dealing with this. My favourites eps would probably be Becoming 1 & 2. I think Joss did an excellent job of wrapping the season up with those episodes. Like Batmite said, it was truly amazing, beautiful and painfull stuff. Overall, the season flowed smoothly with a few bumps here and there. Compared to the other seasons, this is probably the strongest.

I definitely agree with you about Becoming.
And as for Go Fish, I think it's incidental that it sucked. A lot of TV shows put an "inconsequential" episode up towards the end, depriving the audience of the main plots to build anticipation for the finale.
It's just sad that it was so crap. Apart from Jonathan.

Becoming 1 & 2 were marvellous, I loved them to, what a Finale!. I didnt mind Ted, I definetly didnt like it but I dont hate it, its kind of boring, but there are some funny lines in there from Xander. Go Fish was ridiculously dumb, I understand it was to give us a break from the main storyline but still, they could've done a lot better, was nice seeing Xander in Speedos though I also agree its a very strong Season, and the parts we pick away at arent to significant, I still prefer season 3, but Season 2 is definetly a close 2nd

Season two was a fantastic season. Passion was my favorite episode. Beautifully written (in an sadistic kind of way). The finale was great. Suprise and Innocence are two other great episodes. I think it had the best episodes. And it was an awesome story. Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of it either. Except when Cordy thought Xander became a fish man she was so sweet. And I was suprised at how nice the Xand-man looked in a Speedo. Overall, acting this season was awesome. I really felt for every character. And the best of David Boreanaz's acting.

Passion was amazingly written. And it was kinda morbid, but it really worked.

Drusilla is awesome. I don't think she would have had the same impact if it wasn't for Spike, though - and vice versa. In season 2, they really complimented each other.

Drusilla was one of Season 2's best parts, I agree, Spike and Drusilla made each other in season 2, it was seeing them together, seeing there love, the way they showcased there love.

I actually didn't care too much for Drusilla. Though i agree that Spike wouldnt have had the same impact if she was not around.
Things that stood out in season two for me.
Buffy breaking down over the fact she was killed by the Master. Angelus hunting through the school for Jenny. Killing her and leaving her in Giles' bed. Xander turning Buffy down when she was offering herself to him because he knew it was a spell. Buffy killing Angel was a huge deal.

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of Drusilla's. She was good for the story, and for her interactions with Spike and Angelus, but I found her annoying Angelus returning was the best part of the season, Innocence was brilliantly cold for Buffy and the finale is one of the best episodes in the series. It had some of the worst episodes in it as well, but they're easily skimmed over next to the rest of the season

Dru served her purpose, but she was a bit painful There are quite a few episodes in this season I dislike, and a lot of the Bangelness bugs me because its so corny. Loved Angelus, he was great and it got rid of one of my least favourite characters in the season - Angel This was also areally good season for Giles development, the start of his moving away from "stuffy watcher" to mentor and friend.

I think it was a great season for development. Character development with Giles and Angelus, the development of the show (although it continued in later seasons) to the darker topics and episodes, the development within relationships. I think it was a real growing season, even though it did have a few duds.

I think season two had the best character development of any of the seasons. It took the characters, who still weren't brilliantly defined at the end of season one, and expanded on them. Had it not done this so well, I don't think Angel would have held his own series.

Yeah, you could definitely see that. It didn't matter if they were changed in a big way (such as Buffy, or Angel) or in a small way (such as Xander), there was still some important development in the season.

I don't think Xander change in a small way in season 2 in my opinion. I thought he became his own man after the events of season 2. It was seen quite clearly in season 3. He didn't have a huge life changing moment in season 2 like Buffy did but I felt that the events that happened around him made him grow up and become a lot more mature I feel.

I think all the characters changed and grew up somewhat in every season, Xander included. It's one thing about Joss's characters that are so enjoyable.
