He's not a saint and not evil He's a hero that makes mistakes. A lot of mistakes. He's a human. I think many dislike Xander because he's too human for them. Xander and Buffy IMO are the most human and real characters in the show. Their flaws and their good qualities are very mangled together, and that's very human. Anyway, many people say they dislike Xander in the last two seasons, I understand disliking him in S6, but why would people dislike him in S7? He was less funny sure, but that's a good development to his character. He sees and thinks more and talks less by season seven, he had finally accepted his place in group, he showed Dawn that she can be special even without superpowers, he stood by Buffy's side throughout the season until Empty Places where he got seriously hurt. By season seven, Xander had finally accepted Spike in the gang: he ignored Anya's "Let's kill Spike" speech. Instead of accusing Spike of going evil like Willow did in Never Leave Me, he pointed out that Spike might be triggered into killing. He asked Willow to wait for Spike in Get It Done, and was the only one who considered that Spike can bring the demon for the exchange. He gave Spike a comforting pat on the shoulder in LMPTM. I thought Xander was a wonderful young man in season seven, too mature for a 22 year old, I should know: I'm 22 and I'm as immature as Season one!Xander. LOL Anyway, without his flaws, Xander would be such a boring character to watch. I liked that there was a very human character in the show that isn't as ideal as the other characters. I also loved that Xander had overcome his flaws by season seven, that gives me hope to grow up and change in the future. Hee! If Xander was as 'perfect' as BtVS!Angel, I'd kill myself from boredom. I started to like Angel when he got a personality and started to have human flaws that I can relate to.

I Xander. I don't understand not liking him in any season He did get less funny as the seasons went on, but he was growing as a person and had been through so much. He still kept his sense of humour, but there wasn't a heck of a lot to joke about in season 7!

Yeah, I mean you can't expect Buffy, Xander and Willow to still be the same cheerful kids they were in high school, they've been through a lot, of course they'll get serious. I can't wait to see what's Xander is up to in season 8

I loved Xander. He was my favorite character once upon a time. Like you said, his flaws are what make him a very interesting and entertaining character. Plus his jokes are funny as hell. The fact that he's a sci-fi geek and he tries to hide that is funny as hell too. And that he has no special super power is what makes the show that much more believable. He's definitely a great character and very important to the show.

I Also love Xander, a few times hes pissed me off, but in a lovable kind of way!, and his scenes with Spike are just fantastic in season 4 were fantastic , It was so great to see Xander in season 7, He was all smartly dressed, driving Dawn to school, blue prints for the school, I think Season 7 showed him in a new Light.
I agree it made the show a lot more believable to having Xander there, Xander was a hero, he didnt have magic, he didnt have super strength but he still fought, sometimes I imagine back to season 1 Xander and willow and the change is remarkable.

Ooooh if S7 showed Xander in a different light, S8 is gonna show him in a whole new level of light. Not telling 'cause that's gonna be spoilers. Xander pissed me a few times, Nico, that's what I meant by flaws. He's not perfect and that's why I dig him.

He's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but he's believable.
And above all that, he has a great deal of heart. I don't think he lost his sense of humour, but just learned when was a more appropriate time for making jokes.

The worst Xander moment for me, (and it wasnt really a Xander moment) was the whole asking out buffy thing, he was so crushed, and I hate that episode because of that moment :/ . Xanders humour was brilliant, Always had me laughing

It wasn't a nice moment, but I really think the show was stronger for it. It really made you feel for the poor guy.

My favourite Xander moment was his speech to Dawn in Potential. My least favourite is some of his "lets kill Angel" moments

The thing that bugged me about his "lets kill Angel" moments had a lot to do with Nick Brendan's acting. He's not good at playing the pissed off tough guy, and it makes it seem like a far more sudden shift for the character.

My dad made mention of the same thing Allen. And whenever Xander started saying things like that or standing toe to toe with chipped Spike my dad would say that Xander perhaps thinks he is better (fighting wise) than he actually is. Lets face it, Angel or Spike could kill Xander in a moment.

Yeah, that's very true.
By the end of season 7, his fighting skills had drastically improved, but still nowhere enough to go toe to toe with any of the tougher vamps out there...

I think he's very glad Spike was chipped and that's how he can prove he can take him. Spike can't hurt him, so Xander can bully him whenever he wants... high school issues much? As for Nicholas Brendon's acting, Joss had said that NB had an edge that doesn't suit Xander's character which is why Xander was probably portrayed in a different way than the writers wanted. But I liked that Xander is short tempered and a jerk sometimes, it makes him more real. I like characters like that. Favorite Xander moment was his speech to Dawn. Least favorite was when he implied that Angel was the one who hurt Giles when he knew it wasn't Angel. It's very clear he was trying to hurt Buffy's feelings... way more than actually wanting Angel dead, and that's worse in my book than him simply wanting Angel dead.

To me, the best thing about Xander is how human is he. I don't think there is anyone as human as he was. Some might think that that is what made him a so-so character but I think it's very much the opposite. It made him real and that's why I like him. My favourite Xander moments are with Anya. Especially when he expresses his love for her. He's just so sweet!

I definetly agree, I never saw Xander as a so-so character, even from the begining he always stood out to me, and I loved all of his Scenes, and I loved the way NB portrays the character!.
Glenny, if I had to choose, I would choose you 21/50

What I found interesting about his character was his childlike immaturity and I mean that in a good way. It was part of his charm. He wears his heart on his sleeve and isn't afraid to get shot down (like when he aksed out Buffy).
Also I like his gallantry which in some ways means more because he hasn't got any powers to back him up, that takes guts. Even Olaf and D'Hoffryn were impressed by his bravery.
I talked about identification in another forum. I talked about how Angel not Buffy was best person to reach Faith because of the connection. Xander understood what it's like to be a Zeppo and that's why he connected with Dawn. Incidently the Zeppo and the Replacement were one of my fave eps of the respective seasons and oddly enough he's not my favourite character.
Perhaps the biggest problem with his childlike quality is the hypocrisy, especially towards Buffy. Hello, it's ok to comdemn Buffy's choice in men but hello? Your lady has also killed a bunch of people too.

aww people really don't like him. I though everyone at least liked him if not loved him. He made geeks look cool. How can you not like him.
I liked how he grew as the show went on. He learned alot through making mistakes. Which is what us normalish people do. He was the most real character in the show, well yer because he was just about the only fully blow human with no super power ye ar. Also because he acted like most of us do. Childlike, lovesick, kind ect... He was a hero. In more then on way.
But if you looked back Xander did have a few battles in his belt during the seasons.
all in all Xander Rocks XD

I don't like the people who use the discussion point "Xander was not good, but he wasn't bad and he was depicted as a normal person." Well, yes he was depicted as a normal person, but I think he was a very good person, I know he has faults, but everyone does, and his weren't very large, he's a very good person, imo.
