Firefly is a fabulous Joss Whedon masterpiece. It rivals that of Buffy and Angel.

from tvtome: Firefly is set four hundred years from today in the Union of Planets, a government established after a bitter civil war. Under the leadership of Malcolm Reynolds, a renegade who fought against the new government, the crew of the Firefly-class vessel "Serenity" struggles to survive any way they can. They fly to the border planets to keep away from the Alliance and below it's radar. This series was described as a "science fiction western" but is different from other space-based shows as it features no aliens.

Each of the crew members has a special role. Malcolm Reynolds holds the duty as Captain - he is a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the Alliance to no avail. Striving to be normal, he must keep all his crew members on task and have Serenity flying safely. Zoe (aka The Soldier) is extremely loyal to Reynolds as she served with him during the war and owes her life to him. Zoe has the strength and experience to take command of the ship, if necessary. Her husband, Wash is the pilot of the ship and is unassuming, self-deprecating and calm with a sense of humour. The mechanic of the ship is the experienced engineer, Kaylee while the Ambassador is Inara and the Mercenary is the tough, ultimately loyal, and unpleasant Jayne. Simon is the doctor on Serenity and comes from a wealthy family and has a privileged upbringing. His sister, River (aka The Fugitive) is an experienced psychic who can read most minds. And lastly, Book or "The Shepherd", an old and wise priest.

I've watched 5 episodes. So in order, I'm up to Our Mrs. Reynolds. I've been watching it with my brother (the 13 yr old) and he loves it. Another brother just got home and is watching the first disc. It's a family affair, hahah.

I would stay up and watch the rest, buuuuut I have to get up early tomorrow and go to work. sigh.

It is the best episode IMO as well. I've seen it at least ten times and i piss myself laughing every single time . I LOVE where Mal walks up to Jane scratching his nose and goes, "How drunk was i last night?" and Jane goes "I don't know i passed out." I rewind that bit at least three times each viewing

I had bought Firefly from dymocks for $70 then decided I wanted the HMV $30 so I bought them both in the hope dymocks would allow me to return it... otherwise hopefully HMV will allow me to return it.... otherwise I'm screwed.

ah well maybe you could get the new Tru Calling boxed set if you liked that? or just get a load of music + films. At least your not stuck with 2 Firefly's or you could have turned the bad into good + cnverted a Firefly novice into a fully fledged fan
