The photos don't look good, and it does look to me like it was excessive. It's not like he just gave him a broken nose or anything.
I'm a little torn about it, but if it was provoked, I think it would be a shame if he wasn't allowed to compete.

There are new claims this morning that it happened with another athlete too. I think he's entitled to a fair trial, but if he is found guilty I don't think he should go to the Olympics. And he won't be able to if he is sentenced harshly. No matter what provocation there could have been it was a pretty violent attack.

I really don't think he should be chucked from the team until he is found guilty or innocent. And i don't mean in a trial by media

Agreed re the media. They've deemed him guilty already. And there should definitely be no decision made about his fate at the Olympics until after he's been found guilty or innocent.

Well I'm not too versed on the specific story but I do believe there should be consequences for this guys actions. If he's found guilty by a fair trial then first of all he should get the same sentence as anyone else would. Regarding his special privilages as an Olympic potential they also should be taken into account. These people are given the responsibility of being a symbol, when they tarnish that symbol they have to go that extra distance to redeem themselves. They certainly don't hesitate to take advantage of any perks that come with their position. I'm not necessarily saying he should be booted, I just think he should have to earn back his spot in as public and impactful way as he lost it.

AFL star Ben Cousins was admitted to hospital yesterday morning after and "adverse reaction" to a sleeping tablet. It has been revealed this morning that he had a couple of glasses of red wine earlier that night, as well as Caffeine tablets that morning. So he has overdosed on a mixture of things he shouldn't have taken. The wine alone sure. The tablet alone sure. I won't comment on the Caffeine tablets because hello, what is wrong with coke of coffee? What other drug or alcohol scandals can you think of regarding athletes? What do you think the punishments should be, for both illegal use and just overuse of legal substances? Why do you think prescribed substances get so overused and abused in sport and celebrity in general? I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in Debate and Discussion since this could apply to celebrities and their drug use too, so lets see where the discussion leads us.

Cousins took twice what he was supposed to what an idiot! Why is he taking uppers in the morning and downers at night? This happened because he is stupid and a drug addict but he didn't do anything illegal this time lol

Changed the title So Fevola got himself arrested for being a dickhead on NYE and has now been given "time off" from the Lions to sort out "personal problems". Sucked in.

He doesn't deserve not to be, his managers are claiming it isn't a legal dismissal. Pfft.

Micheal Hibberd suspended indefinitely for assault. AFL clubs are starting to take a stronger stance against shitty off field behaviour. Still wonder how different it would be if it were one of their stars. Eddie Maguire is pushing to stop fans being morons at games, Stephen Milne has been copping a fair bit for his off-field issues from 2004. The shit he gets is possibly deserved but I actually agree with Eddie that something should be done about fans abuse at games.
