October's Movie of the Month is Scream. I remember watching this many many years ago and it is one of the few scary movies that I enjoy. If you haven't seen it DO NOT look up who the bad guy is <cough> Bre <cough> it ruins part of the movie!!! So lets start discussing

I don't like being scared and when I'm alone watching it at 4am I had to look it up. Sorry! I'll discuss my thoughts a bit more when others have gotten a chance to watch it.

One of my all time favourite movies ;D I watched Scream when it first came out when i was in year 12. I then took it with me the next day on the bus on school excursion to Canberra. It was damn cool watching it with most of the class with the curtains drawn and not many people having any idea what was going to happen. Not sure the teachers loved it quite as much As a horror/thriller fan from way back I love how it tells you all the rules of the genre, shows you all the cliches and then completely turns them on their head and breaks them all. I didn't pick it. I didn't know who the killer was (i honestly don't think many ever have worked it out, and the ones who say they did are full of it). It was fresh and exciting. Scary in parts and damn funny. I think the performances are top notch - especially Drew Barrymore and Neve Campbell. I don't think enough credit goes to the actors in this genre (and i always imagine trying to continually get to that level of emotion and terror take after take. Must be tough). The director is Wes Craven so it is, of course, fairly flawlessly directed. The score music (by Marco Beltrami) is brilliant - Trouble In Woodsboro/Sidney's Lament is one of my favourite pieces of score ever. The writer Kevin Williamson (who i am a fan of for another big reason of course ) did a terrific job on the script. He made something new by spinning off from the past, and is rightly credited for reigniting interest in a genre that had all but died by the mid 90's. So all in all, its an awesome movie. Will always be a 10/10 from me. And i will always appreciate the great line towards the end.... "Life is like a movie. Only you can't pick your genre".

I have to watch it again as I keep getting all 3 movies confused. And there's going to be number 4 too.

This is a great movie, and I will definitely try to watch (I know I say this every time...) The bit with Drew at the start...oh shit! Didn't see that coming. Great start.

Just started watching. I'll post my thoughts here as I watch! - Even though I've seen it before, the beginning was so good. I hate suspense, and this start has a lot! Really sets up the whole horror-genre thing well.
- I want to try that popcorn...
- I'm pretty sure that's not PG13 (Sidney flashing Billy)
- Aww, the movie where David Arquette and Courtney Cox met...
- Interesting use of music. Really builds suspense.
- Ahh Ghostface in the house! In the house!
- Why does Sidney have a TDD? (computer phone thing)
- Aahah "what are you doing with a cellular phone?"

Guys you don't really need spoiler tags in these threads, except on who dies and on who the killer is. Anything else can be discussed free of spoilers.
Re how many sequels there are, I don't mind if they keep making them as long as they keep the quality. I loved Scream 2 and 3.

I liked the computer 911 thing. Is that possible to do on any laptop/PC now? It could come in handy. I love that the Fonz is the principal.

I forgot about the ending: I forgot that Stu was one of the killers. So disgusting the way they stabbed each other! It reminded me of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold (Columbine - had to look their names up) - so creepy and sick! .

I'm looking forward to Scream 4. Fairly sure Sid is a goner though which will upset me. I've always liked her character.
The Scream soundtracks are great. I have all three and the Scream one is especially good.

Really? I'd like to see it, but will wait for the DVD (I haaaate suspense in movies!). Looks like Adam Brody is in it, which will be fun. Always have a soft spot for Seth Cohen!
