The series by Cassandra Clare includes: City of Bones City of Ashes City of Glass City of Fallen Angels With two more books to be released over the next 2 years. When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but it's hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.
Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clary's mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know....I'm almost done with the second book and I really enjoy it. There are some things that happen in the book that I hate the writer for but it makes the story quite interesting. I'm enjoying the second book a lot more than the first. But I'm hating Jace (one of the lead) a lot more in the second than in the first. I know Nico has started reading them. Has anyone else?

I remember Cassie Claire from HP fandom days, and the whole plagiarism thing. So I guess I can't read the books objectively. Plus the fact that "Mortal Instruments" was originally the name of her Ron/Ginny incest fanfiction. Squick.

Is this fanfiction or a book series? If it is the latter it is in the wrong section.

It is a book series Shaun. The first book gave me the creeps, the direction she took with the main characters just wasn't what I chose to read the book for. I didn't know about the plagiarism thing either, very interesting I thought the book reminded me of alot of stuff from my favourite shows and the way characters spoke. Liz it was really the name for her incest fanfic? that is funny because The two main characters who are flirting, kissing and clearly showing sexual tension are written as brother and sister. I don't know if that changes but maybe she has some issues with that topic!.

Moving this to the books section.
I have refused to read these because of the plagiarism. I read that HP series she wrote and recognised a lot of it from other places but never got the full extent of it until it was massively exposed. I can't bring myself to read another series done by an author that blatantly plagiarised so much for a fan fiction series she could have EASILY given credit for and no big.

Huh. I didn't know about this. Interesting. Will now be reading the books in a different light. Now I know why the Jace/Clary thing happened. In other books similar to this, it will NEVER happen that way so I was very surprise that she wrote it that way. Now it all makes sense now!

I don't know if that changes but maybe she has some issues with that topic!. Yeah, it is. So gross. And wtf, she must have some kink or something! I'm sure the MI haven't got any unattributed quotes with them, surely editors would have picked that up...but the whole HP FF thing really left a bad taste in my mouth. Especially since she stole from Buffy! I've also seen videos of her and she looks really rude and ungrateful (talking and eating while she was being introduced at a reading, for example).

I still enjoy the books though.

And that's cool! For me, I couldn't (and therefore haven't) read the books without thinking about the author. Which is a bit sad, really!

Even though I enjoy the story, I cannot stand the two leads! I'm almost done with the third book and Clary and Jace are bugging the hell out of me. Always hated Jace since the second book but now it's Clary. I've read the synopsis of the 4th book: And Clary and Jace are together. Don't know how that happened as last time I checked, they are still siblings. Nothing in the third book yet to change this so I don't know what to make of it.
Don't know whether I want to read the 4th book now. :-\

Nico! You might want to get back into reading this series. It actually gets quite good. My fav is the third book and I think it's because The whole incest thing gets solved. Read the fourth one a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it too. The ending was annoying because it was a cliffhanger and the next book doesn't come out til next year. Oh and of course there's going to be a movie on it. Though I personally think it would work better as a TV series.

Yes do! I think once you've gotten pass the whole incest thing in the first 2 and a half books, the story isn't all that bad. I think you might enjoy it.

I've now read the first two books. The incest thing hasn't bothered me because it is obvious they aren't actually related

Oh it's obvious to the reader but not to the characters! I've stopped reading it. Reading back my comments, I'm wondering why I enjoyed the books in the first place. Are you going to watch the movie?

Ahem, not obvious to everybody ;)I finished the series a while ago haha I have heard the movie was bad and Cassandra Clare (with all her morals) was already complaining that they wouldn't let her have much input

Yeah, I heard the movie was bad - as bad as Twilight - so have no interest in it. Btw, was Jace English in the books? He is in the movie and I don't remember him being English!
