yeah I actually really enjoyed that one, though its not really anything likt Taming of the Shrew. The version with Elizabeth Taylor is really good. She plays a great shrew LOL. I alos didn't ming the newish Midsummer Nights Dream with Kevin Kline, Calista Flockhart and Michelle Pfieffer.

Romeo + Julliet boring I know because everybody says it, but it was the 1st play I ever read and what got me interested in Shakespear. Measure for Measure is also really good, read it in collage + we had a really weird teacher that liked everything to be linked back to sex! But there's loads I haven't read, mostly the comedy's so I'll start with them, I'll take some pics so you can see how huge it is!

I would have to say my fav is Romeo & Juliet. Taming of the shrew comes a close second.

I the sonnets. I haven't read as many of the plays as I'd like. I like "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I didn't at first, but it grew on me the more we read it in school. I've always wanted to read "The Taming of the Shrew" since I like 10 Things I Hate about You so much. Even though they won't be exactly the same, it would be nice to see what it was based on. I have the complete works somewhere. I should dig it up and read the Shrew. I keep adding things to my list! This is not a good thing!

If you don't want to read it, get out the Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor Taming of the Shrew movie. Its great.

OK, this thread died like 6 months ago, but I like Shakespeare a lot and I think the discussion deserves a revival. My favorite play is either Romeo and Juliet or The Twelfth Night. Or Midsummer Night's Dream. All right, I can't choose. There's a new-ish movie based on a play-- She's the Man?? Oh my gosh it's hilarious, but it's just really loosely based on The Twelfth Night. I didn't know 10 Things I hate About You was based on something by Shakespeare. Hm. You really do learn something new every day. As for the Romeo and Juliet movies, I kinda liked the older version of it and I thought the newer one with Leonardo DiCaprio sucked(I agree with you, Beck, there shouldn't be guns in a Shakespeare movie). I stand by my opinion, though, that the best adaptation of Romeo and Juliet is the ballet by Prokofiev. Oh, it's so beautiful and way more powerful than the movies. I cried harder during the ballet than I did during either of the movies.

Romeo and Juliet is prpbably my least favourite Shakespeare play Its too over the top for me, though there are parts of it that I love. I haven't seen any ballet (one day though, that would be cool).

I'm going to go against the grain here, and say that for the most part, I'm not a Shakespeare fan. I've read most of his plays, and to me, they all seem like soap operas for the 17th century.
That said, I absolutely love A Midsummer Night's Dream. That is fantastic.

I am not a fan. They are a bit dramatic for my tastes.

I wouldn't say they're dramatic, as much as melodramatic.

They're dramas. Isn't that the point? But yeah I like his stuff. Some of it is way off, but some is brilliant. Like most writers.
