Has anyone read this book ? I've read the first two chapters and think it's really good! Daphne Du Maurier is the writer! I recomend it to anyone!

This is what it's about: Irish orphan girl Mary is sent to stay with Aunt Patience and Uncle Joss in Cornwall. Joss is the landlord of Jamaica Inn and also the head of a gang of pirates who lure ships to their doom on the rocky coast. Mary soon finds herself in trouble when she discovers the truth. Here's a few lines I really like: Mary: Take me to Jamaica Inn Coachman: Jamaica’s got a bad name, that’s no place for a girl, you must have made a mistake. Mary: I have to go there! Coachman: They don’t like strangers on the moors. Respectable folk don’t go their anymore, their afraid. Mary: Afraid of what ? Coachman: Him! Its really good!

There's a Tori Amos song called Jamaica Inn and I'm really curious about whether this is a reference to this book. I just saw the stage musical Rebecca, which was also initially a book by Daphne Du Maurier, and it was just wonderful, so I do think that her books are the next on my list.

Did you end up reading it, Veverka? Tori's song is apparently based on the book, and has a few references to the characters. It's on my list of things to read (eventually ).
