Can i seriously recommend "Mill on the Floss" by George Eliot! I had to do this book as coursework recently and my god i loved it! It's kind of intense but is very similar to Hard Times by Charles Dickens. If you love Dickens you should love this! It's the tale of the young siblings Maggie and Tom Tulliver and how their changing devotion to one another alters as their amazing lives change beyond comprehension. Death, secret loves, betrayal...it's all here, and leaves a warm feeling in your heart.

I have always read a lot, and my favourite books are historical novels. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley is an awesome book. I have read it so many times, both in Finnish and the original English version. It's a mixture of fantasy, legends and also real history. I love the story and the characters - Morgaine is my heroin. The Egyptian by Finnish author Mika Waltari is another great historical novel I have read a dozen times. I can highly recommend it to everybody interested in history and good writing. It's not a "light" book to read, perhaps, but the story is touching and gives the reader a lot to think about - of world, of human nature etc.

My all time favorite book is definitely "The Outsiders" be S.E Hilton. This book definitely had a large impact on me, even at a young age. This book is about loyalty and friendship, and I would recommend it to people of all ages.

When I was sixteen I read Gone with the Wind... about one hundred times. When I went to the States, Atlanta was like a pilgrimage to visit Margaret Mitchell's grave- Of all time fave books, this rates for me. I can still pick it up and cry when Melly dies...

The Outsiders- S.E. Hinton--I agree with you, Laura(actually I'm the one that made you read that, aren't I?) Anyway, this book is absolutely amazing. I've read it like four times and it made me cry each time.
Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen-- Oh, I love this book. My older sister made me read it and I loved it sooo much. It's so good. I recommend it to any girls(I don't know if guys would like it as much...)

I recommend it to any girls(I don't know if guys would like it as much...) I think most guys would kill you for even suggesting it They just don't seem to get being 'excessively diverted' by Austen

yeah, which will make lit next year a lot LESS fun as all the guys in my class bash my favorite book in the WORLD. Although, you know what? Some guys have a lot they could learn from Mr. Darcy Oh speaking of, there's also this book called... oh snap, I think it's just called "Darcy." It's not by Jane Austen, but it's Mr. Darcy's side of "Pride and Prejudice" I haven't actually read it yet, but I think it'll probably be pretty good.

Yeah i thought i'd struggle when i did an Austen class at Uni. I was ready to fight to the death for my favourite book.... But i never had too. There was a fair bit of rowdy discussion but it was universally acknowledged that it was a brilliant piece of writing. So you might be ok What do you think guys could learn from Darcy? I'm not sure that i would want my boyfriend to be too like him Must look up that book called Darcy - i've never heard of it!!

I've just read some of this series recently, but it's so great...It's called Pendragon, and I believe it's up to book 8 (though I've only read up to and including 5). There's a really creative idea behind it and the plot never really slows down so it's never boring. It's a great read.

I'm adding "Ivanhoe" to my list. It's absolutely brilliant, I think, and I've hardly been able to put it down since I started it.

My favourite books where the Fearless series. It's by the same authour who wrote the Sweet Valley books. I was a huge fan of the SV books and that was how I discovered Fearless.
I think it's an awesome series with comedy, drama, action and love. Brilliant! ;D
