Let's discuss! Love it or loathe it, talk about it! I'm currently reading the first one, and I was suprised at how I actually did quite like it. I do think there is a bit too much in it though, however I can see how that would really appeal to people. The story is epic, and I shall definitely have to read the rest of the books, including The Hobbit. Thoughts? I know Bre is a big fan.

Ah Lord of the Rings how i love thee
Lord of the Rings can be a very difficult book to read, all the names and places and things like that can wear you down when you just want to get to the story side of things. I remember in the first book i skipped 3 chapters near the beginning because it was dragging yet i still didnt miss any of the storyline. I love the Council of Elrond chapter.

Oooh Lord of the Rings. The Tolkienverse in general I could talk about for hours, and have, actually. Yeah Tolkien likes to put too much detail into the story, which you know is impressive, but boring for the reader. I tend to skip a lot when I reread it. And all the names.. pff. You don't need to know them all. Just basically who's in the movie is important (and Tom Bombadil .. one person I would have like to see in the film). I love the Council of Elrond chapter too, Glenn. I think because there's quite a bit of dialogue, so it's easier and more entertianing to read. The Shadow of the Past is a good chapter in book one too.
The Hobbit was a cute book. Not as great as Lotr or the Silm, but still good. I would like to see it as a movie (but only if Peter Jackson did it).
And lastly, the wonderful Silmarillion. It's my all time favorite book. It's breathtaking. The first time I read it I was soooo into it. I didn't skip over any detail (which is odd for me). It's beautifully written and is filled with great stories. And plus, you learn the back story of the One Ring and the other rings. It's a fantastic book.
And my elf name is Eáránë Galathil. Purrdy.

Ok I LOVE the stories. Hate the books. SO longwinded. IMO one of the best stories ever written and the books didnt do it justice. Who needs 5 pages describing a tree?! OK thats a slight exagerration, but it is extremely long winded at times. I find it very hard to read. And my elf name is Tarí Ringëril. Which is pretty

Oooh poor Bilbo. I think if I had a horse I'd name it either Shadowfax (if they were white) or Brego (if it was brown), they're good horse names. That's one thing about Tolkien, yeah he put a million characters in his stories, but they all had sweet names.
