Has anyone else read any of the Anita Blake series? I'm actually reading the comic adaptation of Guilty Pleasures, figuring that would provide a decent indication of whether I want to read the series. It's halfway through, and I've been enjoying it. Currently, Anita's first foray into Guilty Pleasures as a new origin type story (even though she's been the Executioner for a while) is out as a comic exclusive, written by Laurell K Hamilton and her husband, whose name escapes me. The first issue was quite interesting. It's called Anita Blake: The First Death. Beck, you'd recommend me getting into the actual novels?

I was talking to someone about the Anita Blake series recently, and she seemed to think that the later books have basically degenerated into pornography. Has anyone read them, and would they agree?

I haven't read the newer ones, but the last one I read was heading that way I'd recommend the first 7 books, don't know about the other ones.

I'm actually reading Guilty Pleasures right now and so far i really like it. It's probably another series i'll get into. Like Amber, i also LOVE the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. They're the best books i've ever read, and i heard that the series is heading towards being the next Harry Potter. Other than that, the series Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber is really good. I only read the first one so i guess it's not really fair to judge the whole series, but it was quite interesting. I also like all the Buffy the Vampire Slayer trilogy's. Oh yeah i almost forgot lol the Blue is for Nightmares series by Laura Stolarz was amazing. I read the first 2 so i still have to read the last 2, but i still liked them alot.

The discussion on Twilight has me wondering who will pick up the second part in a series if they didn't particularly enjoy the first?
Generally speaking, I wouldn't, and would take the first as an indication that I won't like the rest. The exception to this rule is if someone recommended the book to me, knew where I was coming from with it, but thought that the rest were an improvement on it.

Yeah I wouldn't. I wouldn't see the point if I hadn't like the first at all.

I picked up the sequel because the first one was enjoyable enough, but it wasn't great.

But if the second one is as crappy as the first, I wouldn't bother with it anymore. I like to give a series a chance if the first book isn't very enjoyable. It might pick up during the second book.
