Has there ever been a solo book you've read and would like to see a sequel? What's your favorite sequel? Or has there ever been a sequel that just sucked?
Most of the books I read are part of a series but there have been times when I read a good book, and read the next book and it's totally disappointing.

I tend to find, that unless part of a series, book sequels do tend to be disappointing, and don't provide a huge amount of worthwhile material. When part of a series, the world tends to grow and expand, which adds a lot.

I usually read books that are part of a long series and there are only a few books I've read that are stand alone.
I just finished reading a book called Storm Thief. At the moment it's a stand alone book and there are no news yet as to whether there will be a sequel but I hope there will be as it's a really interesting read and would love to see more of the story.

Do you guys think that series' are generally better than a book and its sequels? I'd say so, especially when you consider some sequels that go down hill (remember the day when Hannibal Lecter wasn't a joke? ).

No, I think it definitely depends on the individual book. Plus, when is the point when a book and its sequels becomes a series?

You mean series of course. No. By series, I mean something that was intended to be a series, further developing as the story moves along. In my example, the books are sequels to Red Dragon (and generally done to simply market movies now).

I mean your use of an apostrophe. But we won't get into that again! There are books I wish there had been MORE sequels to - Madeleine L'Engle's Austin books definitely needed more!

While technically a prequel, has anybody read Hannibal Rising? When this was released, I lost a lot of respect for Thomas Harris. I generally like his writing, but it seems like he's writing predominantly to sell the rights for more Hannibal Lecter movies. He also hasn't written a non-Hannibal book since Black Sunday, which was a decent read.
Are there any sequels you particularly like or dislike that haven't been mentioned above?
