Well, sort of. I'm assuming that the authors of books based on television series and movies are mainly fans, maybe some who were involved in the making or something.
I know some of the television series that have books about them are Buffy, Angel, Charmed, Lost, Star Trek, etc. I have most of the Buffy, Angel, and Charmed ones, and I'm thinking about buying a few Lost ones.
Most of them are really good, but some are just uninteresting storylines with bad characterization. They can be really good (re: The Lost Slayer series) or really bad (Queen of the Slayers).

I liked Queen of the Slayers . I also liked Faith's journal if you've ever read that, but this was already discussed somewhere else. I don't know of any other fanbooks, since I'm not a big fan of them- unless they are about Buffy/Angel themes, and if they look like they have potential. It's nice, though, because if you don't like the book you can just be like, "Joss didn't write it!"

The only fanbooks I own and read regularly is Angel and Buffy. I've read a few books on Charmed and Everwood but they never really interest me.
I've enjoyed almost all of Angel and Buffy books. There are only a handful of bad ones (like Queen of the Slayers and Seven Crows).

I've never been a big fan of novels based on pre-existing franchises for some reason. That said, I really do like non-fiction books, guides, etc, relating to the particular fandom. Any reference material like that, to me, is very cool.

Has anyone else read any fanbooks? Is there anything you would, or wouldn't recommend? Are there any writers whose take on the fandoms you particularly like or dislike?
I've never been a fan of the fanbooks, but I've noticed that Kevin J Anderson has written a lot of them for various fandoms. Friends I've spoken to either love him or hate him, and are almost polar opposites with all their comments. Have you read any of his work?
