I think Xander should have ended the engagement before the wedding, but its better he did call it off than if he had gone through with it. He did things very badly, but he was trying to do the right thing by Anya.

yep he definately had good intentions but it just took him too long to pluck up the courage to call it off.

I thought they should have stayed together. I loved them together. They grew up well as a couple.

Being together for a long time isn't a reason to continue the relationship. Xander was right to cancel the wedding, there is no point in getting married when you have doubts that strong. He chose a bad time to end the wedding, but he didn't mean to end the relationship.

Yea, you have a point Shaun (cant believe I'm sayin that lol). But, I was just mad about WHEN he chose to call off the wedding. He had doubts ever since All the Way. If he would have told her, maybe things wouldnt have ended badly.

^ ^ I usually don't have a point?
His timing was shit yeah. But it would have ended worse if he had married her with those doubts. If he had told Anya about them she would have tried to talk him out of them the same as she did in Hell's Bells, and it could still have destroyed the relationship if he had called the wedding off then. Anya would still have taken it badly.

lol no its just it seems we disagree alot
Yea maybe..... But, i think the only solution was: no proposal!

The proposal may have been a bad idea in hindsight, but at the time Xander believed he was ready to marry Anya. He may not have thought it through, or the doubts might not have creeped in until later.

I think they should have had a longer engagement. The problem was Xander keeping his doubts to himself, but we know from OMWF that Anya had doubts too. Talking it through might have ended their relationship but it could have made it better too.

Yeah I was suprised that they never got around to talking about their doubts. I would have loved to see their relationship work out. They were one of my favorite couples.

Let's put a slightly different spin on this. After "Chosen", should Anya have survived, do you think the two would have found a way to be together?

I think they were slowly getting back together in the last few episodes, so maybe if Anya had survived they would.

Anya was changing a lot, but I think Xander was too. I think they both were maturing, and maybe after Chosen they could have reached a time when they were both ready for marriage. I just don't know if Anya would take him back after what he did to her.

I'd just like to start out by saying that I more or less don't believe in marriage. However: I felt at the time that Xander calling off the wedding seemed out of character. Since there has been some explaining that made it alittle more likely but still not quite right. They just seemed so comfortable togeather and when he called it off it came across as just massive cold feet/fear of the unknown/Xander not believing he could be happy married because he'd never seen his adult "roll models" happy in a marrige.
I'd like to think Anya and Xander could get back togeather if she'd survived but Anya really did need to learn to be a person before she lived as a couple.
