Did any of you hear about this ring before you watched Buffy? I never had, but then oddly enough I saw that same ring drawn on the white board in Joey and Chandler's apartment in one "Friends" episode.
That was an odd coincidence, and I was wondering possibly where Joss got the idea from.

I don't know where the idea came from but I've seen them in stores. they're not expensive. Angel's is supposedly really old though, so I'm sure its worth more than the ones I've seen in stores. Though Scott bought Buffy one too :dunno:

Yeah, that was interesting how Scott brought her the same gift lol. Angel talked about the ring being something exchanged between his people as a sign of devotion, so I would imagine his was a real old one. Perhaps Scott's was a copy or knock off?

Yeah it's a Celtic symbol I think? I see them at Wal-Mart all the time for like $7. I think, like Beck said, Angel's is ancient and Scott's was just a wal-mart one lol. I've bought one a while ago, but I lost it.

Oh, that's awesome. I imagine they were around before the show?

Yes. Definitely. Joss Whedon didn't create the claddagh ring.

Yes. Definitely. Joss Whedon didn't create the claddagh ring. But- but- I thought Joss created everything! . And wow, I need to get on of these rings!

I have one. It wasn't that expensive, I actually bought it at a fair for about $10. It's pretty though. *looks at* A lot of my friends have them too. But not for the same reason I do.

You learn something every day, huh? That's quite interesting.
In Angel, they established that he's really cheap, so the big romantic gift only cost him $10 or less!

I never heard about this ring until the episode. Honestly, I thought it was something that was made up by Joss. I didn't know it was something real until much, much later.

I had never heard of them before the show, but once I heard about them on there I was immediately drawn to its history and lore. I found a very nice gold one on sale for $50 and bought it. I absolutely love it and wear it everyday. (I never see them as cheap as you guys tend to, it seems.) Since I saw it on BtVS I've started seeing them everywhere!

Yeah, I did a little research on it before I went around shopping for one (looking at prices and stuff) and found out the real history that way. I loved it even more then and just had to get one! Ironically, before I got mine, I had only seen it on BtVS. Since then (especially when I went to college) I started seeing them everywhere.
