This is going to sound like a stupid questions but After finishing watching "Faith, Hope and Trick" It made me wonder, What brought Angel back? was it mentioned because I cant remember. Was it coincidence he came back after buffy said goodbye and placed the ring, was it triggerd? was it just his time?
If someone could settle my mind i'd appreciate it!

I don't think it was ever explicitly stated but I think its accepted that it was the PTB and Buffy placing the ring was coincidence. There's also the Firsts claim this it was him but I don't hold much creedence to it, because why bring back somebody that has the strong ability to defeat you? sure it was attempting to turn him into Angelus but even he would have told the First to F-off

Yeah i am more on the side of the PTBs. Though maybe Jasmine had more of a hand in it. I mean there are so many prophecies floating about involving Angel that someone had to do something.

I used to think it was the power of "true love", but my understanding after watching Angel is that it was the PTBs, who wanted to get him into place in LA.

I always thought it was the first. Why would it had claimed to bring him back if they hadn't? Besides, the First had a plan: to use Angel to kill Buffy- who was an even bigger threat. I believe it's entirely possible that the First had put faith in its ability to manipulate Angel, and brought him back for that purpose and that purpose only.

The First said that just to make Angel more upset. He was already loosing his mind in Amends and it said that just to deal another blow.
It's true that it's never really specifically said, but I agree that it's basically accepted that it was the Powers That Be

Yeah, I thought the whole point of that episode was that the First was screwing with Angel to get him to kill himself. Nothing they told him should be taken at face value.

And you trust everything that the PTB says? The First was trying to get Angel to kill Buffy and then himself, it knew that no other agent it had in its possession could get close enough to Buffy the way Angel coud to take her out. Though like the Beljoxa's eye said in season seven. The First doesnt usually create but merely seizes upon the opportunities that is presented. My point is that its up in the air as far as who brought him back. Unless Joss has said somewhere.

I don't believe Joss has said it anywhere. And I didn't say that I believe everything that the PTB's say, either. All I said is that it was my understanding that they brought him back. After 254 episodes between the two shows, that's the conclusion/interpretation I came away with.
