Hey, i need help with a question.
How dose the essence of the slayer know who to go into next.? Is it blood, cells? What connects all the potential slayers and slayers together?
I would be gratefully if some one could help.

I always thought that it's the Powers That Be (or whatever Higher Power in charge of assigning slayers) that appoint who becomes a Potential and eventually the Slayer. I don't think it's blood or cells as that would mean that all the slayers have to be related. Highly unlikely in my opinion. I really think it's the Higher Power choosing who to be the next slayer. As for who they know to choose, I have no idea. It's anybody's guess.

I wouldn't have thought that it was a conscious choosing by a higher power like the PTB, just... "fate".

I wouldn't have thought that it was a conscious choosing by a higher power like the PTB, just... "fate". If there's such a thing as 'fate' in Buffyverse. Buffy mentions time and time again that being a Slayer it's her destiny. So, yeah, it could be that. But then you see higher powers like the PTB and the Senior Partners changing destiny and the future and what not. So, it's really hard to say if 'fate' really exists. In a world of Joss, you have to think twice if there's such a thing a fate or destiny.

That is very true. Maybe it's all a matter of chance. The "chosen ones" aren't chosen, it's just a big ton of randomness...!

Its random!, why would the PTB Ever want to Make Rona a Slayer!, , and she was a potential!, really though I have no idea, Though if it was the ptb it makes sense, i think they are the obvious answer and probably who i would choose. I'm suprised buffy Didnt ask giles "why me?" ^-^

all the potentials gather together and they play paper scissors and stone, the winner of the tournament becomes the slayer, but i may be wrong

well I suppose its a better idea than a fight to the death, last potential standing!
Maybe its somebody higher up than the PTB that was never revealed to us, because it certainly seemed that the PTB didn't know everything that was going on with the slayers

That's true, though I'll vote for randomness.
It was a spell that created the Slayers, remember. Just risidual effects?
