For my hundredth post I wanted to go off on something I feel passionate about. My love of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. ;D
At the time that new episodes were being aired I was a die hard fan that never missed a Tuesday (and was choked if I somehow did or if somebody bothered me while it was on.) I loved the characters, the plots, the humor, and the action. I never forgot what day the new season would start but often over looked my families birthdays (and believe it or not almost mine once). I cried more then once during the series (and still do when I rewatch certain scenes). I got more people hooked on the show then rats did on the Bubonic plague. I felt a piece of me die when the show ended.
It has been years since the show ended and still a signifigant portion of my life is spent revolving around a completly fictional show. Rarely more then a day will pass (and often not even that) when I don't day dream about a certain sequence, episode or series of quotes. I own all the episodes and often feel the need to watch this episode or that. They're my "comfort food" if you will when I'm feeling down. I still occaisionally get people hooked on the show.
I own and occasionally try and run the Buffy roleplaying game.
Every chance I get I'll watch shows or movies that contain actors from the show (or the other Joss shows for that matter) just because of the fact that they were on Buffy. Evan if I have no interest in the show and will never watch it again. I sat through "The Grudge" and "Date Movie". I get excited if I see a name I recognize in the credits of a movie, evan if I didn't see them in the movie (FYI: Drew Goddard wrote "Cloverfield"). I stop at supermarket checkout isles when I see a magazine with a Buffy actor mentioned on the cover (why should I be interested in Cosmopoliton?)
I think of the characters in Buffy not as characters but as people and sometimes think that something the actor has done is out of "character" for them. When I see the actors on different shows I watch for familiar traits (Why isn't Angel concerned about the sun as he and Bones examine that body?). I get rehooked on Buffy by watching inferior television that is presently playing.
I'm a dyed in the wool Vampire Slayer fan and wouldn't have it any other way. I miss it, and want to thank all involved for producing it. She saved my world...alot.
Thanks for letting me indulge myself and if anybody wants to toss in their two cents feel free. If not that's cool.
Geek out!
