I read an article in today's local paper that reported that our National Library have a total of $7 million worth of unpaid fines. I'm one of those who have contributed to that $7 million. But my unpaid fines is only 45 cents. ;D I rarely have to pay fines as I always return my books before the due date. Mostly because I don't want to pay the fine. The fine paying system in Singapore isn't very convenient and user friendly so I rather return a unfinished book than return it late. I didn't know I had this 45 cents fine until I came back and started borrowing books. Anyway, are you prompt in paying your fines? Or are you those who can't be bothered - what's a few cents right? Or those who promptly return your books? What is your biggest fine you had to pay?

Usually my fines only get really big if I check out a movie. Those are a dollar for every day they are late. I can renew books online so I don't have to worry about getting books back to the library right away.
Right now I have a whopping 25 cent fee lol
I read an article last year about a lady who got arrested because her fines were so huge and she just ignored the notices. I think she was in custody for a few hours only, but it's still an odd story.

I've never had a library fine. I used to get video ones sometimes but I don't really hire movies often anymore.

I haven't had a library fine since i was at uni. And i tended to avoid those seeing as though they were $5 a day per book. They really like to make sure you get them back on time at ANU and UC (and most universities i imagine)

We get "charged" in points at my uni - reach 200 and you have to pay $20. I think I have....20 points, and that's from one book that was a day late (short-loan and someone had requested it. I think it's 5 points per day otherwise?)

I hate charging people fines, but... if they're evil it's fun! And, I love money, so I love putting the money in the till- I've worked a lot of retail It's a minority though, but sometimes people have so many fines and basically stolen books that will never be returned, and sometimes it's really good stuff like Buffy dvds- that makes me so mad These people are going to the special hell, you know! The people need the Buffy dvds to be available!!!
