I started writing about 4 years (when I was 15) and I always used to just use it as a way of expressing myself as I never really spoke to people about anything personal really. Then a year or so on my life seemed to start revolving around my then girlfriend and so she became the focus of my poems. Fast fowarding through that relationship crashing and burning I stopped writing altogether. Then over 2 years later here I am and last night I couldn't sleep and there's this girl and it's complicated and there's all these new pressure of uni really starting to become difficult (all these things that I'll look back on in 3 to 4 years and wonder why I found it so tough - but heck that's life). So anyway I lay awake last night for about 3 hours and I wrote these and to be honest they actually helped me sleep.
Faith
What do we build ourselves up to be?We aspire to everything but end with nothing
You say you're special but are you?
Are you the one who wins what's never been won?
The one who does what's never been done?
You take every thought that flutters through your mind
And mould it into something outstanding, something brilliant, something fake
You cling to these fantasies like a commandment carved in stone
You lose sight of what's real
But everytime it catches up with you
But everytime you say it'll be different
But everytime you end back here
Doing the things you can do without
Making desires needs
Making nothing everything
Making your faith withstand another blow
But what is this faith you hold onto?
It’s not an entity in the sky
It’s not a morale code to obey
It’s not something to justify
It’s what keeps you together when no one holds you
The reason you get up in the morning
The reason you fall into this same old trap
The reason you attempt to defy all odds
After all that one in a million has to be someone
It might never be you
But the chance of success overcomes the fear of failure
And in the face of all you have thrown away
Is that one roll of the dice
That one flip of the coin
That one word that just needs to be said
You could change the world in a day
Or have yours come crashing down...
Girl
I promised myself I'd never write
But as I lay here late at night
My pen becomes one with my heart
Creating it's very own work of art
And it's you who's struck this very note
A prize that can't be won or bought
So I place all the cliches to one side
And from your eyes these words I hide
There's something about you I just can't say
That has me up feeling this way
It's not something I see, that I know
But come summers heat or winters snow
There remains just one thing the same
I just don't know what to blame
For this feeling that just makes me weak
But gives me light when everything's bleak
It's impossible to justify harder to explain
But it's more than just my mind playing a game
Amazing things can happen in the blink of an eye
So I stopped justifying and stopped asking why
It could be your kindness your eyes or your smile
And to find the real answer it could take a while
But the reason isn't the important part
It's that magical feeling that we really can't
Go without once we've just had a taste
As it leaves inside you a large vacant space
That can only be filled by that one missing piece
The north to your south the west to your east
The price of that feeling is just one chance
Perhaps just as simple as asking to dance
But you have to grab that chance and not let it go
Whether through fire, hail or snow
But it's worth the risk for the feeling that's true
Just take this chance and I'll prove it to you.
