That would piss me off. What else pisses me off is that I was so looking forward to the special features on my new two disk "A Hard Day's Night" DVD and the features suck! Not one interview with any of the fab four. Only boring people I don't really care about.

Speaking of sucky features, a mate was telling me today that most of the Pan's Labyrinth features on the second disc are in Spanish - with no subtitles! I haven't looked for myself yet, but that is disappointing.

That's not true. Or at least on my DVD. Guillermo and a few others speak English and the people who speak Spanish, there are subtitles if I remember correctly. Either that or I just put the subtitles on with the remote control.

Thanks for the clarification. I really need to go through my copy...

I remember when I rented Pan's Labyrinth the FIRST disc was all Spanish, and it had said nothing about that on the cover. Lame.

Well the movie is spanish. They don't have an english version - just the captions.

Yeah, the movie is subtitled. I know that the DVD boxes here mention it. My concern is about the lack of subtitles on the second disc.

Do you guys think that you can ever have too many features? I was thinking about this with the Scrubs Season 6 DVD set, and every episode had a commentary. Some had the cast, some had writers, directors, producers, etc, but some just had people from the props department, etc - and not with anyone "bigger". Personally, while I like hearing from the different sides, do you think that someone from the props department can hold their own commentary?

Yeah. The more, the better. If you don't want to watch it or listen to it, don't. Crew in set design have just as much interesting info for some people as the director commentary.

I haven't actually listened to those commentaries yet, but I was surprised that they had one on every episode (I don't think I've seen that with any other TV series). I hope those ones are on there because they thought it would be interesting rather than it being a case of them not being able to get a bigger draw for that episode.

I was really pleased with the amount of special features on the Hairspray DVD. They were really interesting and varied.

On my brothers stargate dvds they had a variety of commentaries, and people doing them. I personally enjoyed the commentaries that had the writer/actor and head of Photography.
No deleted scenes or out-takes though, that was rather glum.

No deleted scenes or out-takes though, that was rather glum. I love watching deleted scenes and outtakes. I think those are the ones I look forward too the most on a DVD. But it doesn't decide for me whether or not to get the DVD.

So I looked up the special edition version of Superbad, and it's $50!. Too much for me to spend, even thought the features look good. Is there a limit to how much you'll spend on a movie? I don't think I would pay more than $35.

That doesn't seem right, Liz. It's more than they have the Blu-Ray version listed for. Shop around, and I'm sure you'll find it at a decent price. I've been known to pay a bit more for DVDs on occasion because I get a lot of import ones, though for single movies they're not so expensive at the moment, thanks to the Aussie dollar.
As for deleted scenes, sometimes they're good, sometimes they're not. It's interesting to see why they're cut generally.

Yeah, I thought it seemed extreme. I just looked and JB has it for $35. Sounds better to me!
I don't often watch the deleted scenes, I prefer the mini documentaries.

As long as they do more than harp on about how awesome the movie is and promote something you've already bought, I don't mind them. But I really hate those puff piece ones.
I like getting cheap DVDs, too, Paul. A quick check of the conversion rate is about $16, which is around average for when a DVD comes down in price here. I wait for stuff I'm not particularly looking forward to, otherwise I get them early.

Is there a limit to how much you'll spend on a movie? I don't think I would pay more than $35. I woudl never spend more than $25 on a DVD. If I see something I like for more than $25, I would wait for it to go down or go to some other country to buy it. For example, a Little Miss Sunshine DVD in Singapore is about $30. I didn't buy it as I know I'll get that at a lot cheaper price in NZ. I found one at $15 here.

I am too impatient to wait for a favorite movie to get cheaper. I bought Pan's Labyrinth for $34. Ridiculous.
