Who are your all-time favourite TV characters? From any show, and why do you like them? And on the flip side, who are the TV characters you hate the most and why? My favourites to start with: Spike obviously, I adore most things about him. I also love both Winchester brothers (I can not pick between them and won't ) , Gregory House (from House ) I love his cranky wit. I can't think of characters from any older series atm but I'll get back to that one! Characters I hate - I'll have to get back to that one too, no one is standing out in my mind at the moment

Spike's a given, as is Faith. Also love Mal and Jayne, and I'll end the Jossverse stuff here.
Christian Troy (Julian McMahon) in Nip/Tuck is a favourite of mine, he's a nasty piece of work who wants to be a good person, but can't bring himself to do it. Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) from Entourage is also brilliant, and one of the most quotable characters on TV (that said, any quotes of his would send the forum censoring thing into overdrive).
Also, Dead Like Me, when it ran, had one of the best casts of characters I've seen in a long time. George (Ellen Muth), Mason (Callum Blue), Rube (Mandy Patinkin), and Daisy (Laura Harris) were all awesome.
That said, Roxy on that show (Jasmine Guy) really bugged me for some reason. I can't think of any characters I really hate right now, but I'll go with her for the moment.

Someone asked me awhile back who mine were because i was always saying, 'Oh they are one of my favourites' So i made a list. I'll just say the Top 10 or so.... Josh (The West Wing) ~ He's cocky, arrogant, insecure and a total apathetic wuss... but you can't help but adore him Josh was the reason i started loving TWW. When he got shot at the end of Season 1 i was utterly devastated. Seeing him bloody and wounded still hurts to watch even after seeing it 50 times Pacey (Dawson's Creek) ~ Quite simply my idea of the perfect male Love him. Logan (Veronica Mars`) ~ Perfectly flawed. Can't help but want him. Spike (Buffy) ~ Just awesome. Nothing else needs be said. Mal (Firefly) ~ See above re Spike. I could watch Our Mrs Reynolds on repeat and its because of Mal. CJ (The West Wing) ~ Incredidbly smart and talented, beautiful and just fricking fabulous in general. If i could be any TV character in the world i would be her. Hawkeye (M.A.S.H)~ Hawkeye is my childhood. Its my dad's favourite show and i've been watching it for as long as i can remember. And i loved Hawkeye for as long as i can remember. Best laugh ever. Faith (Buffy)~ The kind of chick you want to be (apart from that slight going mental and killing phase of course ) Brian (Queer as Folk) ~ Perfect. Thats all really Chandler (Friends) ~ The funniest friend in my opinion. From season 1 to 10 remained constant and yet changed for the better. What he says to the birth mother in Season 10 about Monica is just brilliant. Veronica (Veronica Mars) ~ Another chick you want to be One of the biggest compliments i've ever gotten was that i was really like her.

I agree with you Loz, Chandler is the best 'Friend'. Awesome in all ways, especially his facial expressions. Spike, Mal and River are my favorite from the Jossverse. House is awesome as well. Such a cool ass hole. Allison DuBois from Medium is an awesome character. Good actress, too. Homer from the Simpsons is the coolest dad on television. And he's a decoration in my car. Let's see ... oh Barney from How I Met Your Mother is brilliant. From Lost, Sawyer, Locke, Eko, and Desmond are the best characters ... some of the best in my TV history. Locke I think might just be.

Gilmore Girls: Paris, Doyle (it's Jonathan!) - Logan Grey's Anatomy: George, Izzie Lost: Charlie Friends: Chandler, Monica Queer As Folk: Brian Law and Order SVU: Olivia and Elliot I don't know if I have actual reasons for liking these characters. I guess they just appeal to me.

Gah! This is difficult. There are quite a number of characters that I love. Recently, I found new love for Izzie and George from Grey's Anatomy.
But I think my all time favourite character would have to be Buffy. I just absolutely love her! I just love her strength, her loyalty, her passion...there's so much more!
Characters that I hate? The one I can think of at the moment from the top of my head is Dan Scott from One Tree Hill. Never hated a character this much in my entire life! Grrr...

Thought of some of my most hated...... Amy (The West Wing) ~ Despise everything about her. Should never have been with Josh. When she's on screen i itch Eve (Angel) ~ The worst casting in the history of the show. She looked 12. And she was annoying as hell. And something about her mouth and the way she talked made me want to punch her. Andrea (Beverly Hills 90210) ~ Self righteous cow. Like hell the cool kids would EVER have been friends with that loser. Lauren (Alias) ~ Universally despised. I was no different. Its pretty hard to hate someone with your own name Dawson (Dawson's Creek) ~ The Head. Wanted him to drown in the creek. He was a prick. Like it was any kind of choice between him and the perfection that is Pacey. Dan (One Tree Hill) ~ Evil. Alison (Melrose Place) ~ Bitch. Boring. Didn't deserve to end up with Jake. Phoebe (Friends) ~ Didn't always hate her, just towards the end. And i think by then she had simply become Lisa.

My favourites eh? In order of who I found first... Spike (BTVS)- bad boy with a heart of gold...actually a better way to describe him would be "Spike's a pineapple". Rough on the exterior, sweet and mushy on the inside. Wesley (Angel/BTVS)- He went out as a hero and he was very attractive with a beard Gilbert 'Gil' Grissom (CSI:)- He's quirky, awkward and bowlegged, awww. He's also really sweet once he knows how to get what he's sayin out there. Plus, the man is smart and amazingly HOT. Grissom may not be a man of words, but it's just cause he struggles to say it. He thinks he's more brains than heart, but I think he's realizing that it may not be true... David Phillips (CSI:)- He's a cute Munchkin! Makes you just wanna hug him Sara Sidle (CSI:)- She's dealt with so much and she keeps on trooping. yes, she does have break downs every now and then but that's what makes her human. Smart, resourceful and pretty- I wish I was like her. William Thomas Riker (Star Trek : TNG)- He's courageous, loyal, friendly and smart. Yes, he does seem to have many girlfriends/flings over the course of 7 seasons but notice that everyone else aside from Troi ends up either dead, brainwashed or evil. He's also really sweet to the woman he loves, which seems to be the Riker buried beneath the rough exterior needed for a Commander (and now Captain). His loyalty to his crew always suprises me, as he's always the character going "we can't leave ____ behind!" People complain that he's a wimp cause he didn't take command of a ship when it was offered to him a few times over the show, but shouldn't they be glad that he's still around since he was the one who formulated the plan to get Picard out of the Borg's hands in Season 4? Without him turning down command (twice I think before season 4), there's no way Picard would have gotten back to the Federation. Same situation in Season 6 with the Cardassians. All that being said, he's really hot ^^ Thomas Riker (Star Trek: TNG) - Riker has a twin!?! No, more like a duplicate As Jonathan Frakes (actor who plays both Rikers) said, "He's the less confident and more tender version of Riker". I wuv Riker, and this even more 'tender' version of him (hard to explain) is as attractive. Miles O'Brien (Star Trek :TNG ) - Like David Phillips for CSI:, absolute munchkin.l

Thought of some of my most hated...... Eve (Angel) ~ The worst casting in the history of the show. She looked 12. And she was annoying as hell. And something about her mouth and the way she talked made me want to punch her. I'll disagree with you on Eve. Yes, she looked 12, and yes she was annoying. But I thought that was the point of the character, and what made her work. I was a little disappointed with her relationship with Lindsay, though.

No way. I agree with Loz on that. Her character was terrible and a lot of that was because it was miscast.

My faves? I dont watch a whole lot of TV but here we go:
Anya (BtVS)-She's just awsome.
Willow (BtVS)-I love how her character developed. Plus, its Willow. Who doesnt love Willow?
Piper (Charmed)-Dont know why exactly. She was so hot tempered, but still sweet. Also very funny.
Darryl (Charmed)-I just love him. End of story.
Doyle (Angel)-I LOVE Doyle! Those few episodes he was in, were IMO, the best of Angel.
Denny Crane (Boston Legal)-Do I have to say anymore? ;D

No way. I agree with Loz on that. Her character was terrible and a lot of that was because it was miscast. I actually didn't have too much of an issue with Eve, cause she disappeared rather fast. Or when she showed up, I didn't really pay attention to her. The thing that bugged me was when she showed up in the cast pic and I went "what the hell? she was on the show for what...10 episodes?"

Betty Suarez(Ugly Betty) I just find her really likeable.
Clare Fisher (Six Feet Under) This is pretty difficult because all the characters on this show are fantastic but Clare is wonderfully f***ed up and I always like that in a character lol.
Brenda(Six Feet Under) Same reason as above. I love the subleties of a character. Her sex addiction was played out with humour underscoring the complications of her relationship with Nate and I love messed up relationships too (as well as the sweet ones of course lol).
Sawyer (Lost) Got to love the bad boys. I love his one liners and his connection/relationship with Kate.
Angel (Ats) A hero who is not always about the win. Angel is a combination of the wicked almost inexorable factors that try to determine his fate. The perfect existential hero who win is rooted in 'human' dignity. Amazing!
That's it for now.

Ooh, I forgot about Clare and Brenda on Six Feet. Both classic characters! And I'll even add Brenda's mum, whose name escapes me at the moment as another.

okay I'll add some, I would like to state none of these characters are on the same level as my master, she is the most loved person and character easily! (10/10)
Pacey (dawsons Creek)- mainly for the same reasons Loz Gave. House - A character it is just impossible to dislike, even though he makes some crazy decisions. Seth (OC)- Great character, quirky and fun Ché (OC) - I loved watching all his Caterpiller nonsense and laid back attitude!

Watching a rerun of "Tru Calling" on TV reminded me just how much I liked her character on that show and how much potential she had. And also the daughter on "Eureka," though I can't remember her name. So snarky.
