So my choice is the winner of the Best Film Academy Award for 1994 - Forrest Gump. Let me begin by saying i despise this movie. One of my most hated film characters of all time is Jenny. I appreciate that she had a horrible childhood but i just cannot warm to her at all Anyway, I'll steal it off someone and watch it again and post more

Man, I've only seen it the once and it was a while ago. I didn't hate the movie, and I thought Tom Hanks's performance was great, as were Gary Sinise as Lt Dan, and Bubba (the actor's name escapes me).
That said, I kind of found the movie to be a little cliched, and I agree about Jenny not being a likeable character. I wasn't a huge fan of Sally Field in it, either.
As I mentioned above, it's been ages since I've seen the movie, so it's not the freshest film in my memory. I may get to another viewing at some point, but I'm not feeling the motivation.
Has anybody read the book? If so, how do they compare?

This is actually a, to me, great movie. Tom Hanks is amazing as Forrest and all the characters around him works so well. Even if I had a hard time with Jenny I still liked her. (yeah, I suck I know ) And come on, Sally Field is great. She's funny and really good in her character. Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is amazing. He is a good actor and as Dan he did a really good performance. I loved him and he was definitly one of my favourites throughout this movie. Bubba was just all kinds of entertaining, and like Forrest, a sweet guy. I loved all those flashes of his family serving shrimp and then when they got the money the were served the shrimp. The story is very benign and just a mans story, which I liked. I love how they connect him to the big events and have him meet presidents and "create" the smiley face. It's a warm movie and I enjoy it everytime I watch it.

This movie has always been my favourite movie of all time (until I saw Little Miss Sunshine and that became my favourite movie of all time ). I love this movie as I adore the character of Forrest and the movie was warm and touching. It's been a long time since I've seen this movie so I can't really remember the finere details. Will try to get my hands on the movie and post more of my thoughts on it.

I'll have to watch it again its been far too long since I saw it to give a decent review - but thats because I am not a fan of the movie. I never liked it and always thought it was overrated. But my opinion could have changed :dunno: I am not a fan of Tom Hanks at all though so that may have contributed.

I love this movie. All of the acting is incredible - Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise being the best, imo. I don't think any other actor could have portrayed Forrest as such a lovable character as Hanks did. The reason I liked Jenny was because she was one of the only kids in school that gave Forrest a chance, and because of that, he always remembered and loved her for it. So if Forrest did, I did. She had a f**ked up childhood which led to some bad decisions, but in the end it all turned out well for her, as best as it could. I love how they capped together real events that happened and stuck Forrest in it some how. That was very cool and for the most part, looked authentic enough. The fact that this one guy, who started out as nothing, could do so much in his lifetime, and so much good was very uplifting. Some of the best quotes from the movie are the ones that aren't so well known. Like the box of chocolates one and the "Run Forrest, Run!" aren't even the best quotes in the movie. But I almost think The Shawshank Redemption should have won the Oscar. Almost. Hanks deserved his award for sure, though.

She had a f**ked up childhood which led to some bad decisions, but in the end it all turned out well for her, as best as it could. She was a nice kid, there's no denying that. But by the time she grew up, she wasn't a nice person at all. Forrest's opinion of Jenny - in my mind, at least - was simply taking how she was as a kid, and romanticising her entire character. Granted, her childhood was messed up, and no kid should ever have to go through that, but there's only so far that excuse will go. She wasn't a likeable adult at all, IMO.

How wasn't she nice? She was still nice, just made bad choices. She didn't want Forrest following her around everywhere she went and hoping for something she didn't feel was there, why is that a bad thing?

Admittedly, it's been years since I've seen it, but her character wasn't likeable.

Like i said she is one of my most hated characters in film I think she is mean and incredibly stupid and careless. And frankly i think she takes advantage of Forrest and his love for her

Yeah I think thats one of the big things about this movie, Forrest is the kind of character you immedietly like, and to see someone walk all over him, your going to immedietly dislike that person, I think she knew what forrest was like, he was in love with her, he would follow her everywhere, i thought she was very harsh with him.
I liked the movie, I thought its overall story wasnt to bad, and I liked how he ended up in the army meeting new people etc; , it was like his life was being carried along by fate, (If that makes sense lol)

Like i said she is one of my most hated characters in film I think she is mean and incredibly stupid and careless. And frankly i think she takes advantage of Forrest and his love for her I agree, and I find their relationship quite creepy (maybe that's too strong a word...) I watched it again fairly recently (it's often on TV1) - my little brother had never seen it!
