I think a lot of people who hate musicals find that it's the best one they've seen. I was talking to a friend today who saw it, and he was saying that it's not so much a "musical" as having "musical bits" in it.

I'm not a fan of musicals but I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I think it's mainly because it's not cramped with songs like most musicals are. And I also think the horror/murder aspect of the movie made it seem less like a musical. It's not like your usual bouncy musical movies where everyone sings and dances. It didn't feel like a musical to me, in my opinion.
After watching this, I really wonder how the stage production would be like. As anyone seen the stage show? How does it stand up to the movie?

Really? I thought that the movie had too little regular dialogue, and a lot of music.
I haven't seen the stage show, but I'm kind of curious to now.

Well, it didn't feel like it was cramped with too much songs to me.

Well I thought it stayed true to the story which was most important for me. I'm not a big fan of musicals but I love Sweeney Todd's plot so I recommend this movie. Of course the atmosphere is top notch, this is Burton's specialty. There is a lot of singing in it but also a nice dark humor that might appeal to many that don't like the genre.

I see here that everyone loved this movie, but I really really disliked it. I found the twist with his wife obvious, the singing was terrible and it was far too gorey for me. I also found the plot severely lacking. Can people please point out to me what there was to like?

It's been awhile since I watched this.... All I remember is that I liked it because it was very musically to me. If that makes sense.

I was extremely excited for it, but I hated it too Beck. There is not ONE likable character and I don't think the music was great at all. I know a lot of people who love it, but I got bored and annoyed throughout the whole thing.

But the singing and the songs were terrible Irene I thought the little boy was mostly likable but none of the others. Even the daughter was annoying and I didn't care about her suffering.

I meant to say because it WASN'T very much like a musical. My bad. I can't really remember much about this movie. I don't even remember how bad the music and singing was.
