I'll join in on discussions about Willow, but I won't actually join if thats ok I love Willow, I think she's a terrific character, but not what I would call one of my favourites. I personally liked her character best in season 4, when she still had some of that shyness but was growing up into a more confident woman.

That's alright beck! I liked her character development in season 4 as well. She was getting all growed up! Don't mind my spelling. And in season 5, she was! But then with the magic, and the badness, but in "The Gift" it wasn't too bad. More in "Tough Love" than in anything else. When something happens to Tara, forget about sane and calm Willow. No way. But I liked Dark Willow. She was neat and had a cool storyline.
I'm gonna stop now.

You shouldn't stop hon. You should put down all the things you love about her and it shoul spawn off some great discussion I loved Dark Willow, though she looked awful. Loved the 'bored now' quote echoing vamp willow. nice touch Joss

You see, I have this theory. It may or not be insane. Just listen-
In Lessons, The First gives that long speech to Spike in the basement and it ends with- 'It's about power.' Dark Willow says something similar to Buffy in "Two To Go." VERY similar! My theory is when Willow sucked in all that magik from the books after Tara died, The First invaded part of her. Not all of her, just part. If it invaded all of her, Xander's plan wouldn't have worked. But doesn't everything evil have some of the First in it?
Does that make sense?

The First evil is part of everything evil, so in theory it could be part true. But I don't think the first invades people, demons etc, as such, more it is the catalyst for evil. It was the Dark Magicks that took hold of Willow, setting her on her destructiveness. The magick she took from Giles was pure good magick, so that was what made her able to keep some humanity, allowing Xander to save her.

yay ok i'm a fan of willow for sure but only up to season 6... the starting episode to the season is where i lost all respect for the woman
as many of you know this is where she begun her decsent into evil... she bought back buffy, a huge selfish act of magic, without any thought she pulled buffy out of heaven... true they didn't know but there are ways of contacting the spirit, they didn't even try.
from then she just got really bitchy by means of magic... careless... giles tried to put her down but she didn't care... tara made it clear she shouldn't do magic anymore and willow still didn't care, her lust for power really just shoved me away from this character.
she has no one to blame but herself... when young gies tried to protect her from big things and she still, fully knowing of the risks continued to place her life and the life of her friends in danger.
so i'm a big fan of no magic willow really, but that's why i like tara cause tara had a fair but of power herself and kept it balanced nicely soemthing willow could not do.
then she went bad and for me i thought that was true willow for what she was, the anger that was building up int he whole season was unleashed then, the snappy comebacks that she made to both tara and giles it seemed very close to dark willow.
the spell she performed on tara that altered her mind was just too far... i was glad tara left her then cause she did violate her mind, made it to what she wanted... that is not the makings of a hero
ok i'll stop there... i know she was addicted... but that just means she wasn't strong enought to stop... she was weak in season 6, mentally weak
ok there ya go don't blow my head off lol

Willow's magick abuse started as early as Season 2. It built up slowly, and by Season 4's Something Blue, she had already begun to use magick to solve her problems, making her pain for Oz go away. Season 6 is when her magicks got completely out of control and yes, she was awful during that time. However, addiction isn't such a black and white issue. All of her friends saw her using Magick to solve problems and with the exception of Giles, no one ever really called her on it until Tara left her. Addiction is not an easy thing to let go of, it actually shows how strong willed Willow is that she managed to come back from it.

true but it never should have gotten that bad, tara kept her grounded in the magic life, she was at peace but because that was torn away in the words of giles 'everyone else doesn't matter'... and it took her going over board to actually do something about it.
there is also another thing here... tara grew up with magic at the same time as going through tuff emotional stress from her family and yet she managed to achieve what willow could not do, to balance life and magic and not abuse it for selfless acts, in many ways willow was amy, there are so many ways in which you can link the two... and both went tot he dark side lol

Well that can be said about a lot of things. Some people drink on a regular basis and don't turn into alcoholics, and some end up drinking too much and they do become alcoholics. Addiction is very much not a black and white thing, it can effect some people and not others. Of course Willow did wrong by becoming so dependent on magicks, but thats what happens when one person is given so much power so quickly and no one bothers to say anything. With the exception of Giles, no one ever tried telling her she was using too much magick. Even Tara left it for a long time.

i see... she becamce scared right?... of willow's power
i supose they never saw it coming, buffy and xander thought it was just neat... but they did warn her... i remember in 'living conditions' buffy warned her... to take her time and be careful
poor giles, him leaving and not watching her was a bad thing, but i still have no respect for willow up to season six

'Kay, thanks. ;D With the exception of Giles, no one ever tried telling her she was using too much magick. Even Tara left it for a long time. That's true. Willow was using a lot of magick in season 5 too and no one said anything. But i think that's cos they needed her to defeat glory.

Will turned dismal after season 4
I didnt even like to see her on screen
Season 6 is one of my least favourites mostly down to her. Right from the first episode when she forced Xander to help with the spell to bring Buffy back

Hmm, 'forced' is a strong word. I think she did kinda nudge them into it, but they all carried it out because they wanted Buffy back, and Xander wanted Buffy back too. So, there was some free will in it for him.
