A jossverse vamp of course If you were in a situation like Ford's in Lie to Me, would you act the way he did? Would you choose to become a vampire instead of facing your illness? Even knowing it would just be a demon setting up shop in your body, and not really you?

Right then, I'll post what I posted in Buffyworld.
I personally wouldn't desire to become a vampire because the feelings and disposition I have now as a human is something I value. Although my personality for the most part would be intact, I doubt I'd like to idea of kill humans, well at least from this side. From the other side I suppose I wouldn't care, but it's not something I'd do willingly. think what may attract some people is the lack of conflict. Most vampires feel a connection and an intrinsic understanding of their purpose which can be appealling ofter the existential crisis humans go through (see Season 6 of Buffy especially the song in OMWF 'Where do we go from here?')
Vampires seem to connect to something virtually straight away or at least after their first feed.
Jesse: "Sorry? I feel good, Xander! I feel strong! I'm connected, man, to everything! I can hear the worms in the earth!"
Andrew Borba: "He is risen in me! He fills my head with song! You're the chaff, unblessed. I'll suck the blood from your hearts, he says I may!"
Alonna, to her brother: "Don't be sad. I'm not... on this side there is no guilt, no grief ...I got the greatest guilt cure ever. I can free you!"
Spike: "Becoming a vampire is a profound and powerful experience. I could feel this new strength coursing through me. Getting killed made me feel alive for the very first time. I was through living by society's rules. Decided to make a few of my own."
Darla: "It all makes sense now, doesn't it?" Angelus: "Perfect sense."
From this side though, like I said I'd abhor the acts that vampires perform but once it's happened obviously I wont care. but I'd rather feel all the emotions and guilt than not feel them (about doing something 'wrong').
As for the metaphysics, this is how I see it. I always thought (could be wrong) that the human consciousness carries over. This explains Angel's continual use of the word "I" when talking about Liam and Angelus.
My feeling is that you wake up without a soul and drive to kill. This isn't always clear at first (Darla in Reunion) and Angel states to Buffy that it is disorienting which would make sense especially if you comig out of a coffin but without the soul and connection to darkness a vampire begins to understand his purpose (for the most part).
I suppose the WC would fill slayers with 'It's just a demon' theory because it wouldn't be as easy to kill something that resembles too closely a human being.
I do think the vampire retains the humanity or the 'essence, or if you like the 'meness' of a person. Basically, would you choose to possibly be the cause of many deaths or at the very least facilitate creating something that will cause these deaths to try to save your own life. I wouldn't want to live at the cost of my soul.

I don;t think I could say outright that I wouldn't do it because who knows what I would do in a moment of desperation! If I were dying right now I'd imagine my main worries would be about Xander and his life without me, but on the flip side what would happen to him if I were a vampire? many vampires in the jossverse kill their own families and that doesn't bear thinking about with Xander.
So I guess at the moment I would say no. If however there was the possibility that I could become a vampire and then imediately be ensouled I'd most likely take that option. I'd get to live and still experience all the human emotions the only downsides would be avoiding sunlight and drinking pigs blood.

I used to think the life of a [Jossverse] vamp was cool. Nothing to worry about except for some wood through your heart - seemed pretty rare. But now that I think of it, if I was in say, Ford's position I wouldn't. I like to think that I would do anything to survive - as in live. Not living dead.
And I wouldn't want to be evil.

No way! Never! How awful would it be to live without a soul? The vampire isn't even you anyway...it seems worse than death, to me. A cheap imitation.

Looks like I'm going to go against the grain and say...yeah...I'd probably take immortality. The evil thing kind of makes my conscious go....eeewwww...but on a whole....if I was going to die anyway, I'd take it. I like to think I'd be more of a Spike anyway...he was much less crazy with the killin' than say Angelus.
Besides...there's always the chance I'd run into one of those two and well, then it'd be all worth it. Even though they'd probably stake me as soon as I got there.

now the change of running into Spike and Angelus could definately make me reconsider!............ especially if Angelus would become a love interest

I kinda like the idea of living forever... and well, if someone gave me my soul back it would be me again then wouldnt it?

Becoming a vamp ? A soulless one I'd probably say no. I don't want to kill people! If someone immediately gave me my soul back... well, since Buffy seems to get crushes on vampires, if I get a chance to ever make her fall in love with me I could consider it, LOL

I dont think I'd ever want to be a vampire, Knowing my luck I'd bite everyone who loves me, and then come after all you Kaxxers, Although I would really love to see what the earth is like hundreads of years from now, to see if they have found life on other planets.

I like the idea of living forever, but not at the cost of a soul and conscience. I'd be losing who I am, so it's not something I'd be up for.
That said, if I was in Ford's situation, my thoughts may be a bit different, and I may be more inclined to figure that a soulless existance is better than none at all...

I kinda like the idea of living forever... and well, if someone gave me my soul back it would be me again then wouldnt it? Living forever would be sad if you didn't have your friends and family.

I would definitely not want to be a vampire. To turn into a monster with zero control, and have to drink blood and enjoy it . Anyway, you would be immortal, losing everyone you loved. However, if you were a vampire you would never really love anyone. And you don't have a soul. So, yeah, I definitely would not want to be one. However, I've always wondered, would you know what you were doing? Would you see yourself doing everything and not have any control? Or would your soul be completely lost?

another thing that would put me off becoming a vamp is shop closing times, the city center where i live close's at 5.30 and all the local shops close at nine, so i wouldnt be able to go out shopping for computer games, and if i ran out of smokes i would proberly go on a killing spree

Dude, you'd be a vampire with no soul. You'd probably just rob the shops, and not care that they're closed.

Nah, I probably wouldn't. 'Cause A? Killing people is so not cool. And B? I would miss my friends and family A LOT. Of course, I could always sire them...

Well, if you were a vamp you would think killing is VERY cool.

That's very true. Still wouldn't make it cool though! Also, if I tried to sire family/friends I could accidentally kill them. So no, I would definitely not want to be a vampire.
