I was watching "Beneath You" yesterday, and was struck by the image of an insane Spike draped over the cross, burning. Granted, the placement of the smoke was a little off, but it's something that - since the first time I saw it - struck me, and stuck with me as a startling, powerful image.
The Jossverse show have all had some amazing shots like that, so I was wondering what images from these shows have stuck with people?

The biggest one that stayed with me for a long time was Spike's breakdown in the Gift. That upset me a lot more than Buffy's actual death. Spike draped over the cross was another one, and also Buffy in Anne, the scene that was used at the end of the opening sequence in Season 3 (I think).

Spike's breakdown in The Gift really added to Buffy's death for me. It was just so raw.

The neck snap by the Master on Buffy in The Wish. Just that blankness of her face as she falls.

Willow crying in Xander's arm at the end of "Grave" was really emotional to me. Along with Willow crying and hanging up the phone when Giles calls in "Passion" to tell Buffy and Willow that Jenny is dead. Finally, when Angelus snaps Jenny's neck and lets her fall to the ground. Those are just off the top of my head, I could go on longer .

A lot of "A Hole in the World" sticks with me-- Fred coughing up blood and falling down the stairs, how much pain she's in when she's dying in her room, when Wes is holding her and her eyes go blank and ice over... Also, not so much an image, but when she mentions that stuffed animal and Wes asks her who it is but she says she can't remember. The neck snap by the Master on Buffy in The Wish. Just that blankness of her face as she falls. That's a big one for me, too. It's the main reason I avoid that episode-- it upsets me too much.

Buffy sitting alone in her apartment with her dinner in Ann. I thought that image really showed just how lonely and faraway Buffy was.
The one scene struck me the most. Can't think of anything else.

I completely agree with the imagery in Anne, I thought that was so so telling. Joss just does these kinds of things perfectly.
Spike burning on the cross has just never really got to me, the whole ending of Beneath You just weirds me out rather than moves me, probably because I just hate Insane!Spike, I just find him irritating.
Another one I can think of is Willow crying in the shower in Wrecked. That scene could have been done anywhere else and it wouldn't have been as effective. The fact that it was in the shower is a metaphor in itself, showing Willow trying to wash away her "filth" (addiction) but she just can't. That imagery completely moves me.

I just thought of another one. In "Becoming Part 2", when Buffy stabs Angel and he stands there with his arm extended toward her, I thought that was a really strong image, he was like reaching out to her after she killed him. That really stuck with me.

The shot of Angel leaving in Grad Day Part Two. With the look on the faces and the smoke and just the emotion behind it.

That really stuck with me. That scene looks silly imo and nearly takes away from the emotion of the kill. Him standing there with his arm out... well he looks stupid imo

Angel stretched out in an image of a cross in The Trial willing to die for Darla's sins. It reminds me of something...
