Ok I wanted to know what quotes and references did Mr Whedon make in Buffy/Angel/Firefly that you didn't understand until you researched them or found out later. Mine were the following Wesley mentioned Lizzie Borden. Didn't have clue before I looked it up. Wesley also mentioned Lady Hamilton's virtue. Again I was with Cordy, didn't have a clue, but when I found out I was like 'Ah that's why he apologized, he's a gentlemen.' . Angel talked to Faith about Xander forgetting the 'Safety word' in Consequences. Again I didn't really pay attention to that at the time. That's all for now, you guys? EDIT: I don't mean Joss per se, any episode references obviously.

I definitly understood the safety word quote from Angel, but the others I was clueless too. It actually makes me feel a little better that you didn't understand them because you always seem really smart

Yeah Paulo, its clear you are just as normal as the rest of us I had the advantage of watching Angel with my dad who seems to know everything As soon as Wes mentioned Lizzie Borden and Lady Hamiltons virtue, i was like "huh" but he just filled me in straight away. Cant think of any to add as of yet.

It's a dutch tale (I think) about this boy who saved the day by sticking his finger in a hole in a dyke. But yeah there are so many pop culture references that I have no idea what are about. They're still funny though. (ahhh evil.... ) 48/50

Yep Bre's right. 100 points Angelus' "Foul rag and bone shot to the heart. That’s where you live" had me stumped. It's a Yeats reference. I remember thinking. God, Angelus is so well read and deep. Also Slouching Towards Bethlehem. Again Yeats. I'm not going to go into it but it's from his poem 'The Second Coming' Apocolyptic stuff in other words.

I didn't get Lizzie Bordon, but I got the dyke one. It's tough for me to think about references I didn't get when I heard them - I think in those instances, I've actually forgotten them.

Paulo no need to doubt post you can edit the first post.
There are a few references that always loose me. Like Spike '66 bloody trombones' at the end of OMWF apparently its funny!

Huh, what's 'doubt post'?
I'm not sure about the 66 trombones. Is he actually referencing something specific?

One thing I've never understood is the hand gesture that Spike does to Xander in Hush. The V thing with his fingers. To me that's always meant peace but I don't think that's what he meant

I knew that gesture didn't mean anything good but I didn't want bad thing he meant either.

Wow, you Americans and Swedes are so naive! I thought everybody knew that gesture! Actually, my guess is that most of europe knows it as peace, so it's more england that is naive and doesn't use the regular gesture - the finger Thanx Irene, feels good to know I'm not the only one that didn't know except that it couldn't be a good thing ;D
