I have just been talking with some very silly people who have a very nihilistic view of the Verse after Season 4. They said to me that 7/10 people hate Cordelia for what happened in Season 4 because they don't make the distinction between her and Jasmine. I thought I would ask all of you lovely people here if you hate Cordelia for sleeping with Connor, killing Lilah etc??
I certainly don't but I wonder whether 7/10 people here blame her. Why do I believe that it's more likely to be 9/10 people not blaming her?

It wasn't Cordelia, so I don't get why anyone would hate her for it. Unless they also hate Angel for Angelus' actions, or Fred for Illyria's actions.

I agree. Well, that's 2/2 that don't blame her so far. Good start. I don't understand those fans though. It clearly wasn't her so why would 7/10 think that?

I don't hate Cordelia (because clearly it wasn't her) but I do hate the writers for making her sleep with Conner...

I just meant the idea of Cordy sleeping with Conner was wrong. Besides, at that point of time we didn't know she wasn't Cordy. So we viewers see it as Cordy sleeping with Conner and not Jasmine sleeping with Conner.
That image was wrong and I hate the writers for putting that image in my head.

Yeah, regardless of whether it's Cordy or not, the fact hadn't been clearly illustrated by then, so it does still play as a very incestuous moment.

I hate that scene, and I hate the Conner/Cordy "relationship" but I don't hate Cordy. Like people have said, it wasn't Cordy.

I'm pretty much on the same boat as everyone else. It wasn't Cordy who slept with Connor, so why would anyone be upset with her about it? But the scene did disturb me in the sense that we didn't know it wasn't Cordy, so for a short while I was grossed out with her. Couldn't believe it. But now we know it wasn't her, so no blame on Cordy's part.

Well.. to repeat what has been said by everyone else, I didn't hate Cordy in season 4 and on. It was Jasmine who was driving and Cordy was sadly along for the ride without the ability to do anything. However, I missed the season 3 Cordy when we saw season 4 and I was so happy when they brought her back in season 5 as the real deal and gave her a proper goodbye! Even if we didn't know she was jasmine during the airing of the episodes, I didn't hate her. I just got confused by her actions.. which later was explained!

Hate? I don't think you can hate Cordelia but you can say you hate what the writers did to the character. There is 100 different things they could have done with her. It was kind of a slap in the face to Cordelia fans that for her last season it wasn't even her.
Luckily she did redeem herself in "You're Welcome". But the character will always be tanted now...

A slap in the face, or a plot twist?
I'd consider it a slap in the face if throughout season 4, there was no explanation for Cordy's actions, and it wasn't Jasmine. In that regard, it would just be a poor portrayal of the character.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Cordy during season 3 due to one reason or another and yes i was hating Cordy during season 4 but when it was revealed it wasnt actually her all my dislike for her disappeared. Even all the dislike i had for her during season 3 because i felt sorry for what had happened to her.

Well, thanks all for replying. I'm glad the answers went that way. Just proves my point. Those women were wrong for thinking that non Cordelia or C/A fans would hate her afterwards. Even Glenn, who hates both quite a lot doesn't blame her. What does that say about those women, eh??

I started disliking Cordelia in the middle of season 2 of Angel. I mean she was growing up and starting to act not like the Cordelia i was used to. When Angel and Cordelia started to have feelings for eachother, i had an issue with that. That probably changed how i felt about her too. Oh and then the whole Connor/Cordy thing was very disturbing whether she was evil or not. I was just getting sick of Cordelia all together. But i will say, when Cordelia came back in season 5 of Angel for that one episode, it was like having the old Cordelia again. So she did leave on a good note in my opinion.

What's wrong with her growing up?? A lot of people say this and I don't understand it. It's like every character in the show, bar Cordelia, can develop. I felt it was very natural progression for her, based on the visions. If there was no catalyst there, like the visions, I would say that it was unnatural, but I didn't see that. I personally think her story was more interesting than most, and her and Angel developing feelings for each other was also very interesting and natural. In YW, she was exactly the same as in Season 3, IMO, so your dislike makes even less sense to me. And she was in love with Angel in that ep as well.

I thought Buffys Cordelia was great and I kind of missed that on Angel as she was growing up, but I also enjoyed watching her mature into a Woman, I also found it interesting that she developed feelings for angel and vice versa, its something I would never have seen happen from watching Buffy.

I am a mad C/A fan and I never saw it happening, but it did and it was great to see, IMO. That was what made it so good, IMO. On the one hand, they were so different, yet on the other they were perfect for each other. Very much like Spike/Buffy.
