A lot of humourous Joss lines end up meaning something later though, whether its deliberate or not - its still nifty A classic example being vamp Willow being "a little gay". I think when they're originally written, they're not always intended as foreshadowing, but they end up being played off later. It works nicely, and shows just how intune to the characters Joss and the other writers are.

I've been rewatching Season 3 and saw "Amends" a few weeks ago. It always amazes me now when I watch that episode that it never even came to mind when Season 7 aired and The First was revealed as the Big Bad/ultimate evil. Am I alone? Did everyone else remember them? (I'm not sure how I could have forgotten, to be honest!)
I know that not all foreshadowing is as obvious--and maybe that particular instance wasn't even meant as foreshadowing at the time--so how keen are you on catching those little glimpses into the future? Do (or, I guess, did as the show has been off-air for years now) you just sit back, relax, and let the show wash over you and just enjoy it or were you very alert watching for clues to what will happen next, and always on top of the latest news because of it?

Nah, I'm not one of those who sits and mentally make notes of every action and dialogue, looking for hidden clues and meaning. I learn about most of the foreshadowing from stuff that has been written by fans on the web - except stuff that were blatantly obvious. I remember back when the episodes were first being aired, I use to go to this website where they had all kinds of trivia and Did You Know? information on the episodes. Reading those stuff made me learn just how multi-layered all the episodes were. It was a really cool website. ;D

I was the same, Irene. I would find things out from friends, reading things online, etc., and the more I realized how much there was in each episode, then I started catching a lot of these things for myself.

At the end of Innocence, Joyce asks Buffy if she is going to blow out her bday candle and she says "let it burn". OMWF reference?! Coincidence?? Yeah .. probably. But cool nonetheless.
