I think it sounded wrong because it came after this great duet between Spike and Buffy. It's like, here's Spike and Buffy having their moment and Dawn has to ruin it with (at that time) a cheesy line.

A few Tara lines in season 5. Great lines just poorly delivered as usual.
The
"Im envious Mr Giles, a trip to England sounds so exciting exotic, unless you're English"
and
"I though English people were gentler than normal people"

Oh yeah. Imagine Xander doing them? Would be so much better.

Yeah, I think a lot of Dawn and Tara's problems came down to the delivery. Though Dawn's lines were poorly written, I think they failed with a lot of the teen angst.

The teen angst killed me. And I'm a teen. It made me flinch inwardly. Dawn was always annoying to me. Until the end of the sixth season and through the seventh season...and even then she could have her moments.

Just recently finished rewatching season 7 and I never realised how speechy Buffy gets! I think you get the full effect of it when you're watching the eps in a row instead of one per week. Her speeches are the same thing over and over again. All very cringeworthy.
