I didn't hate this episode. I actually really enjoyed it. I thought Der kindestod (sp??) was one of the scariest bad guy... and whenever little kids are involved, it's scarier. He had a Freddy Kruger-like essence about him that was freaky. I thought it was an entertaining episode.

That was one of my favorite Xander moments!
And it also has such a classic Willow moment, what with the frog fear. I really do like this episode.
But then...I also kinda like Beer Bad, which no one else does apparently.

I thought it was a cool, creepy story, but for some reason in seemed a little "un-Buffy".

She snapped his neck as he was about to perform his eyeball freakshow type thing on her. I really like it as well. Angelus is great. Buffy : Angel isnt going to kill any more people *Angelus pops onscreen* Angelus : Aw come on, just one more Freekin awesome haha Angelus : You know, you not being 100 percent is kinda taking the fun outta this *punches Buffy to the ground* Angelus : Nope, still fun Xander standing up to Angelus was great though, very hard to believe. Angelus didnt kill Xander because......?? A few cops over in the background? The security guard? Anyway, i really enjoy it.

I like it too. Angelus isn't in it a whole lot, but as usual the little bits he was in were fantastic. Glenn basically pointed them out. If Angelus wanted to kill Buffy when she was in the hospital he probably would have. I think he just didn't feel like dealing with a whole crowd of people. He's usually more discreet, you know what I mean? Even when he's going to release Hell on Earth he isn't doing it with much of an audience. Okay--off subject a little.
Anyway, I've always liked it. I thought the villain was totally creepy, even though he looked like Freddy. It was a different approach in Buffy than we had seen before I think.

This was a great episode, i think it was in my top 20.
We found out a little more about Buffy's past which was good. And its good how even when Buffy wasn't the slayer she still came into contact with monster but yet know notice it.
Der Kindestod was scary as hell if i met him i would crap my self.

Man, I think I'd crap myself if I came across any of the Buffy villains!
It's funny; the episode does have a reputation for not being great, yet people here seem to like it. Do you think it's a case of it's grown on people?

I liked it the first time I saw it and it's one of my favourite episodes in Season 2. The plot might not be all that good but I felt that this ep was more character driven than plot driven.
And I agree! There should be more Angelus!

I also loved this episode as soon as I saw it. It was scary, which I loved! Der Kindestod had a very chilling appearance, and I like how Buffy had to fight the demon with a fever. Plus, the title...I don't know, I just love the name of it

I very much agree Laura, The title was great, and the scoobies reactions to seeing Buffy afraid were great to, they had never seen her like that.
The only thing I didnt like, (was what Glenn mentioned) her actually killing der kindestod was a let-down, I thought she was going to poke out his eyes when he tried to dothe weird eye thing to her.

Besides, I think I've had enough eye poking after "Same Time, Same Place"...

The eye poking would've been too obvious, and also too gross

Der Kindestod is one of the show's creepier villains, and the angle with the kids really made this moreso. The character has a great look about him, though. From the discussion about this episode, it doesn't seem like many KAXers do hate the episode. Does anyone want to announce their brutal hatred for it?

I don't dislike this episode either It's not my all-time favourite, but IMO it's enjoyable. And this Xander/Angelus moment was absolutely great: Angelus: Buffy's white knight... You still love her. It must eat you up inside that I got there first. Xander: You are gonna die. And I'm gonna be there. That was COOOOOL, LOL

I can't believe people don't love this ep! It has to be one of my favorite Season 2 episodes. I really loved it when Xander stuck up to Angelus, too! However, it was also one of the scariest in my opinion. I agree that it had a sort of Freddy Krueger-like essence and Freddy Krueger scares me more than any other horror movie character! Yikes!

I really like this episode! It's actually quite scary and I love how Xander stands up to Angel. Plus it's interesting to learn more about Buffy's history.
