Cave men wouldn't have any fear so they'd just go for it. Or so I'd imagine....

yeh plus I think cavemen would just go for the kill whereas the astronauts would try to stop them without killing them

Astronauts go through fitness training, but not combat training lol. And yeah, nowadays people have less of a kill attitude than the caveman would have.

Cavemen.
Astronauts go through fitness regimes and such but aren't trained to fight. Cavemen aren't trained to fight, either, granted, but are predisposed to by their natural instincts. They have to fight to survive.

Has anyone thought that this little topic mirrors the fighting styles of Angel and Spike.
Spike, like the caveman, has an instinct to fight and usually that is his first choice of action. He fights to survive.
Angel, like the astronaut, is very clever. He, while being a wondeful fighter and probably better than Spike, likes to think his way around a problem. He strategises and plans before making any move.
In the modern day, Angel (Astronauts) would probably win because he was slightly superior to Spike but back in those days, cavemen would win for the simple reason. They are bigger, stronger and more ruthless. An astronaut could beat a caveman if he seriously put his mind into gear but usually he would have no time to. This again is different to Angel and Spike.

I agree with the parallels and I think I wrote something similar in BT or BW. A good example of the differences between the two of them soulled and unsoulled is Damage and of course lest I forget FFL. Angel(us) is more planned, more cerebral and likes the methodical destruction of a human being and loathes being likened to a simple animal. Spike is more instinctial, follows his senses and enjoys the uncertainty of battle fully embracing the primal side of being a vampire.
As soulled beings they haven't changed a lot. In Damage, Spike follows his senses throws himself in, smells the blood and finds Dana more quickly.
Angel uses his mind, puts the evidence together and is the first the find out that Dana is a Slayer.
I'm not sure about their fighting styles as either of them could do well depending on the situation, but certainly in terms of their character, it's a spot on parallel.

What I meant by fighting styles was that Angel is more strategic in combat. He plans, thinks it through and then attacks. Spike attacks on instinct, what he he feels in the moment. Damage is the prime example. Spike rushed in and fought a slayer and got his ass kicked. Angel sat back and planned and only when he was sure that he thought about every angle did he attack and he, unlike Spike, was succesful.

Oh right I think I understand, but I suppose one follows the other. Angel is generally more planned (INFJ ) and Spike tends to follow his blood, so to speak. What I meant is that either of them will do well depending on their circumtance, while Angel is more planned Spike has a greater overall capacity for being astute and his sensing of Angel's insecurties is part of what helped him win the fight in Destiny. Back to Cavemen and Astronauts, I think my favourite aspect is how it relates to Fred and Illyria, what is here now and what came before. Fred realises her impending death and states that cavemen win. Is this tied in with the on going battle of what is established, evolution and revolution? This is borrowed from what I wrote in BW. "I think Fred and Illyria both rock and considering the subtle parallels and how Illyria's identity linked more to Fred than simple appearance, maybe in the most obscure distant way, Fred actually does live on. Do cavemen win afterall?"

*revives* Any more opinions on this? I know there are new members who haven't voted yet! I stick by what I said- cavemen.

I was forced to vote caveman because they don't have weapons. However I think that given a brief time to come up with a plan/improvised weapon the Astronaut would win hands down.
For the record cavemen don't know how to fight. They're just ignorant savages with alot of muscle.

They fight for survival with instinct actually, they use that to get food, for protection. If they didn't learn to fight they'd die.

I've alway assumed this fight was just dropping one of each into barren space and letting them have at it. None of this other shite And i still - more than 2 years down the track - say Caveman And i'm sorry Glenn i still laugh when you talk about Astronauts having combat training

It conjures up a great mental image. I can see a scene in a movie with aliens attacking, and astronauts fighting them in low gravity as "Kung Fu Fighting" plays in the background.

In my reality I Give them guns, Astronauts would shoot the cavemen. The cavemen no doubt would shoot themselves and if its 2 V 2 the Cavemen (like Beck said) fight for survival, they would kill each other! and the cavemen probably have all sorts of ailments ! Plus, they are more used to fighting with weapons, if its hand to hand..well anyone knows how to throw a punch, and whos to say astronauts have no fighting experience at all!, everyone has punched someone before

I'm also saying Astronauts because Cavemen don't exist. Never did. We didn't evolve so Astronauts win by default.
