i would certainlty have loved to see him stay longer i dont think his story was explained at all, just that he didnt help some demons out one time and they all ended up dead but is that the real reason why he was given the visions, that one mistake, he had just found out about his demon heritage and freaked when one showed up at his apartment there was so much story to tell and its a shame that it will remain hidden forever but as i hear it Glenn was a naughty boy and they had no choice but to fire him

Yeah I would liked to have seen Doyle on longer, but then would Wesley have come the time that he did? Which I thought was perfect timing, because Parting Gifts.. awesome episode. But yeah I agree that there wasn't enough background and story on Doyle, and I was pissed that Doyle and Cordy's relationship didn't go anywhere, because that would have been cute.

Definately could have been developed for atleast the full season, but then again we may have lost Alexis to another show so perhaps it was fate!!
Cordy and Doyle would have been such a good relationship, bit like when she was with Xander only more grown up!

Glenn was fired wasn't he? I don't think it mattered what the character had going on

I think he was fired because of his drug habit....which ended up getting him killed........

Beck's a topic stealer! I opened this in BuffyTalk two weeks before she started it here! *sings the "Beck's a topic stealer song*
Haha--just kidding.
I am very conflicted when it comes to whether or not Doyle should have stayed longer.
I LOVED Doyle, he was a great character and I think he could have developed into an even more interesting one, if he were allowed to. He's the funny little, sometimes wise, Irishman who drinks too much and is more insightful then many other characters. He was an all-around great character.
That being said, you also have to look at how his death affected the show and it's characters and think about what would have happened if he hadn't died. True, we would have seen more and learned more about Doyle, I love the idea of that. BUT, how would Hero have ended? With Angel's death? I think not. Could Hero have been postponed or never done at all? I think the episode was a turning point for the series and also a serious wake up call to both Angel and Cordelia. I like seeing the effect his death has on them. Especially Angel. He had been exposed to death before, but it was the first time he watched someone die that he cared about.
Also, what about Cordelia? The visions were an aide in her character development and cemented the need for her on the show. Could she have developed as a character and changed as much as she did without the visions? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
And what about Wes? Would he have been able to find a place for himself in the Angel crew? I think so, but he also wouldn't have the postion as Angel's best friend. That would be Doyle.
I agree I would like to have seen more of Doyle and I would have liked to have seen Cordy and Doyle together--definitly a cute couple. I would have loved to learn more about Doyle. I think he did a lot for the show in his short time on it.
All around I think he would have been a great permanent fixture. A good number of things would have been different with him there, but not worse. There are just some things that I think wouldn't have happened if he didn't die. Then again, Joss is a creative guy, I'm sure he could have thought up other ways.

I definitely think Doyle's character could have been developed much more, had his real life circumstances not interfered. I loved the background to his character. He had a great attitude and some wonderful dialogue. He was, in a way, Angel's right-hand man. He, Cordy, and Angel made a nice little group and I would have loved to see the Coyle relationship progress into a real relationship.
I think that he would have made a wonderful permanent character and "Hero" could have been replaced with a different episode that was just as exciting and touching. And if he stayed for a while longer but not permanently his death could have been just as touching as what we saw in "Hero."
And Cordelia didn't need the visions to have a reason to be in the show. I think the writers could have worked something else out. She had become an accepted and willing member of the Scoobies by the end of BtVS Season 3, so who's to say she couldn't have been just a regular human member of the team who had some experience with those that go bump in the night?

yeh I agree at that time there was no other reason to give Cordy a power other than they needed to replace Doyle because of RL. I think it would have been interesting to see Doyle and Wesley interact as well, I'd imagine thy wouldn't like each other at first but eventually find some mutual respect..... plus they both like to drink

I would definitely like to see Doyle stay longer. I love his character and just when things are looking good for him to get together with Cordy, I would love for him to stay and see how things would pan out between them. Not sure whether it would be necessary to bring Wesley in if Doyle stays but if he does come into the picture, I would love to see the interactiong between the two characters. And I can just imagine the number of teasing Doyle would go through with Gunn.

I would have liked to see Doyle stay longer. He was a great character. That said, I don't think it was necessary for storytelling purposes. If the plan was to kill him off, I don't think he would have needed more episodes to make you care more.

I would have loved to see Doyle stay longer. I would have also like to see a Cordy/Doyle ship. I think that would have been interesting.
However, who knows how the whole series would have changed, since it would have been longer before Cordy got her visions and really started to develop character wise (among other things).
Although, I'm wondering what would have happened if Doyle had been on longer, but Glenn Quinn died before he left the show. Would the writers just say Doyle ran away?
