Okay, I'm assuming we've all seen Serenity by now, as well as Firefly. And do people think the movie lived up to the TV series?
To me, it was a big screen series finale. And it did live up to the movie, even if some of the Western feel was lost. Though, does anybody feel differently? Or the same?

Yeah it was a cliffhanger finale for me. There's so much more that can be explored. But it was definitely a good flick. The only thing I'm disappointed with is Book's death. It wasn't effective to me. And he was such a loved character they could have done more, I think. But yes definitely it lived up to the show.

It did for me, but I was disappointed by the lack of Book storyline - his is so interesting and I hope one day it gets told. And Mal and Inara should have had at least one kiss! Seriously!

I agree with Book as in that his story was never fully explored. We never got the answers about his backstory. From the perspective of Serenity as a stand alone movie, I don't think his death served much of a purpose at all. From the perspective of it as the end of Firefly, it was sad to see him go. Hmm... maybe we'll see his story wrapped up in the upcoming Serenity comic...

It certainly lived up to the show. I've never considered, before, that some of the Western feel was lost, but looking back, I can see that. There's certainly more that could be explored, on both the before and after sides of the movie, but I thought it wrapped up nicely as a final ending to the FF verse.

Yeah the western feel was compromised because they spent such a large amount of time on the actual ship. Wasnt too much desert scenery and horse riding. Thats what i liked about Firefly, because it was a future that sort of, felt like the past, if you get what i mean Moving on. Book's death was frustrating. About 5 times during the Series someone said to Book "One of these days you're gonna have to tell us" or something to that effect and then to have him die, and without even seeing the actual attack on him was kind of anti-climactic. I think Jayne's character regressed slightly but for film purposes they needed a much more aggressive antagonist as to that which he was slowly becoming in the series. These are just a few negatives but i still loved the film as a whole. Finding out what brought the reavers into existence muct have been pretty pleasing to all Firefly fans

I was definitely pleased by this movie. Alot of people I've heard being disappointed by it was because it revolved so much around River but I didn't mind that, instead we got the answers to so many things in this one, especially the Reavers. I liked the idea of how they came to be, and how frightening it was that it was the humans themselves that created them - which in retrospect, isn't so suprising considering how some humans are I was also somewhat disappointed by Books death. Both the fact that he died and the fact that all people who hadn't seen the show, didn't get how important and how loved he was and that he was part of the crew. How hard that death hit a person who had seen the show didn't come off on the people who hadn't. Wash's death was just so unexpected. I just didn't see that coming and I just cried myself through half of the next scene. The whole reaction by Zoe was amazing and it showed such a humane side to her, instead of the warrior she was just a woman who lost the man she loved and she just couldn't believe it. Thank God Mal was there to think straight and get her down before she died as well. The movie made a great closure to how things were left on the show and opened up alot of new storylines that could be explored should they ever make a sequel. I for one loved the movie and I can't believe that it's been 2 years this september since it was released and we got to see (although I had to wait until december in sweden) it, and that we waited so long for it.. and now it's come and gone and now there's nothing new to look forward to.

I didn't expect anything in advance, so I wouldn't be let down if it wasn't good...but it was fabulous, and completely lived up to what would have been my expectations. I agree that the Book storyline should have definitely been explored more, and maybe, one day, it will. I was surprised by Wash's death, too, and even more surprised at seeing the new side of Zoe. I also loved how we found out so much more about Reavers than we knew before. It's a great storyline, finally revealed.

Book's death was disappointing because we didn't get his backstory, and Glenn made a very good point about it feeling like a "cheat" since he was killed offscreen. I think that as a standalone movie, it worked brilliantly, but it seemed like a sacrifice the fans had to make for the larger audience.

But wasn't here talk about that if they did do more, we would get more of Book's backstory, kinda going back in time etc? I just kinda remember reading that somewhere *scratches head*

I don't remember hearing anything about it after the movie. Before it, Joss was saying that he wanted to tell Book's story, which made his death more confounding.
That said, I have a sneaking suspicion (or maybe just hope) that the new comic miniseries will tell Book's story (since it's set pre-Serenity).

I hope we get Books story, I loved his character and his death seemed to mean so little in the movie (from an audience perspective) Wash's death upset me a lot too, I knew he was going to die but I still couldn't believe it.

I was more shaken by Wash's death than Book's but during the series I liked Book's character a lot more, so that doesn't say a lot for Book's death. So I hope we get more on Book's story.

I think everyone was shaken by Wash's death because it was just so sudden. Book was killed off screan, and played for emotion alone, but Wash's death had the "oh shit" shock value going for it.

The movie could only do so much so with that in mind, I feel that the movie did live up to Firefly and to my expectations. It answered most of the questions that were left hanging in Firefly but not all - which is expected as the movie can only solve so much. Overall, I was pleased with the movie. Of course, I hope there would be more, like a trilogy, but I'm quite satisfied with how Serenity turned out.

I don't think I would have watched it, either, I definitely wouldn't have been as keen for it.

Since I watched Serenity first I certainly agree that Book was overlooked, you couldnt even tell he was a main character they offd him like he was a background character added for effect.
I think Serenity did a fine job .

I don't think I would have watched it, either, I definitely wouldn't have been as keen for it. Yeah I don't think I would have been all that interested in it - probably would have waited for the DVD.
