*glares at everyone who picked Simon* I would pick Zoe. I don't find her interesting as she doesn't have a complex character like Mal or an interesting backstory like Book or River. She doesn't even have the humor like Wash. She's just...meh.

That's understandable. She's definitely not a favourite character of mine. But does Simon have all that stuff you mentioned?

That's understandable. She's definitely not a favourite character of mine. But does Simon have all that stuff you mentioned? Well, Simon does have an interesting backstory that he shares with River. He might not have the humor like Wash's but he does have the heart like Mal's. The difference is that he's willing to show it more than Mal does.

True, but you wouldn't say that Zoe has heart?

Zoe has as much of an interesting back story as Simon imo :dunno: I like Simon a lot more in the movie, but he bugs me in the show. He's... well... kind of bland

I think that disliking Simon because he's stiff is a bit wrong as I disagree with that. I think Simon actually tries to connect with people and is very caring. He threw away his future for River, he tries and fails to bond with Kaylee. I have to admit he's not that intresting but can you blame him? He doesn't have much history or a brimming personality and the way he's portrayed as dedicated, polite and smart is of course going to make him odd next to everyone else like Mal who is very upfront and casually dressed etc.
As for Book, I find him intresting as I want to discover his history with Alliance. He's a wise man, a preacher in Mal's words and I would of like to of seen more depth to him.
IMO, I'm not sure how I dislike the most as I like them all and in the end they all have flaws which we can all individually dislike like characteristics or their job.

I think that disliking Simon because he's stiff is a bit wrong as I disagree with that. I guess it comes down to whether people dislike him, or he's just their least favourite character. I voted for Simon - he is my least favourite - but I don't dislike him.

I picked Zoe. She was just kinda boring. I kinda wish she'd been spiked instead of Wash!

I change my mind. After rewatching Firefly, I've grown to like Zoe. I never realised that she has most of the great onliners in the show. Book is now my least favourite character.

What's with the lack of Book love? I thought he was interesting. I wouldn't call him my favourite, but I thought he managed to put some things in perspective for the crew.

Upon my recent rewatching of the series, mine's changed from Simon to Zoe, I think. Simon had a couple of great moments throughout the series, and had it continued, I think we would have seen a very Wesley-like growth for him. The potential was there with him, unlike Zoe who bored me a lot of the time. She was great with Wash, but that was about it.

I thought Zoe was much more entertaining with Mal than with Wash. On her own she's alright but I wouldn't say she's my favourite character.

I love Book I thought he was a very interesting character with so much potential. Who was he? No one really knows. Zoe kinda bores me too and so does Simon. Less in the movie than in the series.

I voted Inara but I don't really dislike her I think she'd just be the closest choice. I actually love characters that have flaws and Inara really didn't seem that flawed. I did notice that nobody voted for Jayne, that's cause the man is a walking flaw. I'm surprised at how many people "disliked" Book. He was a complex character that sadly didn't get his background delved into but his character was also very strong in itself. He was the soul/concience of the crew. I'm not surprised, but a little disappointed, how many people dislike Zoe. I realize that the empowered warrior chick is a little overdone in the Joss 'verse but I think she had a certain uniqueness to her character that many of Joss' other heroines didn't. Zoe is a soldier. And not just any soldier but an exceptionally skilled and commited soldier. She didn't have super powers or an especially special background but she had conviction, bravery and she was one tough babe not to mention loyal as hell. She was the Xander on the crew I think. She wasn't one of the flashy characters but I thought in alot of ways she was an excellent addition to both Mal's and Washe's characters as well.

Jane is a walking flaw, which is why we all love him. As for Inara, there were a couple of moments where her character shined, and she really showed what a great sense of humour she has, as well as an ability to get down and dirty (not in a Companion way). Her scene with Saffron at the end of "Trash" was brilliant.
