I found this news article interesting. JK Rowling has officially outed Dumbledore. So, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Doesn't change anything. I guess it shows how students are (usually) completely unaware of their teacher's love lives.

Exactly. I think JK makes a very good point about him still being Dumbledore, regardless.

Now I'm going to wait for the Gellert/Albus (Gelbus? Dumblewald?) fanfic to start pouring in. "You needed something to keep you going for the next 10 years! Oh, my god, the fan fiction now, eh?" Eeeeehehee! from here.

I'm going with, who cares? The books are over, I don't see her constant need to reveal further things about the characters to be honest. If its in the book, fine, if not she should either leave it alone, include it in the encyclopedia she is writing, or write another story with any info she wanted to reveal.

Jo's said she has got boxes and boxes of background info...I'm happy for her to put most of it into the encyclopedia, but I really enjoy finding out random bits of info. The books are over, but I don't want HP to be over.

I find this kind of stuff interesting. Regardless of whether it's official canon, and whether she wrote anything about it, it's interesting to see how particular characters are envisioned past the written page.

Well if it comes out of her mouth, I see that as official canon.

Yeah me too. Obviously if it's her world.
I don't think Dumbledore's sexuality matters, but it would be nice to know about any love life he's had. But I assume the encyclopedia will have some of that.

Well thats the thing, she is doing the encyclopedia so why not just add any info she wants to share in that?

I agree, it feels really strange just releasing big information like that :S

I dont see the need for her to reveal that information about Dumbledore. I liked that him and his life was a relative mystery. We find out a lot of info about him in book seven but all relevant info. His sexuality i don't really see as relevant. I think she is so used to keeping things close to her chest that she is getting carried away with reveals. She enjoys shocking people i guess.

Well I don't think she would have revealed it now if she hadn't been asked. Someone asked her if Dumbledore had ever been in love. I guess she could have just said yes, but that's not very informative!

Like Liz said, JKR could have just said "yes", but ooh interesting? But right away, I kind of thought like Glenn, that she just loves the shock value. Who knows.

I liked this response, "He is my character. He is what he is and I have the right to say what I say about him.”. And the fact that Dumbledore is a very lovable character around the world, might open peoples minds up to homosexuality not being a bad thing. Or I guess it could have the opposite effect and give people a reason to hate HP even more. From now on, remember if you post a link, respond about it, don't just post the link. It could kill the conversation.

Ooh sorry, I did have a response but the link to original article I posted went funny, so I quickly changed it. Anyway - "“I know that it was a positive thing that I said it for at least one person because one man ‘came out’ at Carnegie Hall.” I think that's terrific. I hope it will help other people too. Jo. Man, Dumbledore really had a tragic life. He hid it so well.

They were just close friends. I didn't suspect Lupin to be gay at all.

Me either, James and Sirius were actually closer too. Boys can be that close and not be bi or gay
