So this a thread for the latest on any of the Harry Potter actors!
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) took a break from Harry Potter to film December Boys, coming out sometime in Spring/Summer 2007. He plays Maps. Dan will also be playing Jack in My Boy Jack, estimated to come out late 2007. He is also, of course, starring in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which will be released July 13, 2007.
Rupert Grint (Ron) recently starred in Driving Lessons which played in select theaters.
Alan Rickman (Snape) filmed Nobel Son, which is due out early 2007. He's currently filming The Villa Golitsyn, due sometime 2007 and will be filming Acts of Charity. It is rumored that he will be in Sweeney Todd.
Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) is currently filming a Stephen Poliakoff picture and will be in My Boy, both due out sometime 2007.
Maggie Smith (McGonagall) has recently finished filming Becoming Jane
IMDB released their Top 25 stars of 2006. Daniel Radcliffe is number 22 and Emma Watson (Hermione) is number 16.

All kids have signed on to the very end of the series. There was some speculation that Emma Watson wouldn't, but she ended up signing on.

I'm glad to hear that they've all signed on for the full series. While I can understand the amount of time they're committing to won't make them available for some other projects, I hate nothing more than sequels, trilogies, series, etc. who keep the same characters but change the actors/actresses.
I don't really have anything news-related, but I am glad to see that Daniel's performance in "Equus" has stopped making the entertainment news--over here, at least.

I'm glad they signed on, as well. As much as they might be typecast from here on, it would be a shame if the producers needed to recast the roles, especially at this late stage.

Well, I'm pretty sure Daniel Radcliffe's recent role in "Equus" is a sign that typecasting won't be necessary. Ultimately, I think it's up to each actor to push himself to do other kinds of roles and step out of that box. I'm not saying typecasting doesn't happen, but that it's really up to the actors whether they let it happen or not.

They will always be typecast, at least until they do something else noteworthy.

I hope they don't get type cast. Like Marie said about Radcliffe's role in Equus and I think Rupert Grint has a new movie on DVD; they should be fine if they try and are determined to get out of the Harry Potter character. I mean if they are type cast it might not be the worse thing in the world, but I would be disappointed.

I'm glad they all signed on for the whole series, too. I'd be really disappointed if they had to recast, especially with as many movies as they've gotten out already.

I think it would be awful if they had to recast. Even if the new actors are a lot better a new cast would be hard to watch. It's hard enough to have Michael Gambon instead of Richard Harris as Dumbledore. A new trio after 5 movies would not work for me

I like Gambon better than Harris, actually, so I'm not upset with that change.
Anyway I was watching one of the HP premiers and all of the actors seemed excited about their roles so I would be very surprised if they had to recast.

I agree with you Bre. I don't know what all the bitching about Gambon is about. I think he's great

Gambon was definitely a shift from Harris, but I agree that he does a good job.

Yes, he does a good job. I agree there. I think the big thing is that Gambon's portrayal of Dumbledore and Harris's portryal of Dumbledore are really different. I like Harris's Dumbledore better that's all

Its about script and direction. I doubt it has much to do with an actors personal choice

From the books i always got the feeling that Dumbledore, though a serious man, also has that charm of being a little eccentric. Who here felt that eccentricity from Harris' Dumbledore? I doubt anyone did. Gambon however does a masterful job of that. I would love to see Gambon do the "alas, earwax" line. Harris was a fine actor but i think Gambon is the perfect Dumbledore.

I can see that. It also might be for me that there were a lot of moments with Gambon as Dumbledore that I had issues with. That's not Gambon's fault at all, I'm just saying that that might be part of the reason I prefer Harris.

Damn he is hot. And funny, too. I'd like to see that "December Boys" movie sometime. It'd be nice to see DanRad as someone other than Harry.
