(Apologies if a thread already exists - I searched and couldn't find one.)
So I just got back from seeing it. First impressions: great movie. Yes, they cut out a fair bit - but they had to, the book is just enormous. They compressed it quite well though, the scene at the Ministry might be a bit confusing if you haven't read the book.
Luna was brilliant, as was Umbridge. Rupert Grint is really becoming a great actor, and DanRad is pretty good. Emma Watson has the weakest performance I think. Michael Gambon is still not my Dumbledore.
Overall, I think David Yates did a great job. As I think about the movie more I'm sure I'll find bits I didn't like.

Yeah, i enjoyed it a lot. They did a great job of condensing the book. The only complaint i have is that the end showdown at the Ministry was too cut up. It was just bang into the fight. I missed all the prelude with the doors etc Gambon is my Dumbledore. I think he's great actually. All the acting was very good - Evanna Lynch (Luna) surprised me with how spot on she was. Radcliffe, Watson and Grint keep getting better with each film. Oldman almost makes me cry he's so good. Sirius winked at Harry and i almost lost it I was surprised by how much everyone in the audience hated Cho. While i have never been a fan of the character at all i was surprised when a lot of people were booing and hissing her

More thoughts: - I have to admit: Oldman was good. The winking, the calling Harry James...perfect. - I didn't like how Gambon yelled "SHOULDN'T YOU HAVE WORK TO DO!" (or something like that, anyway). Dumbledore would never say something like that. - Yes, they definitely skipped too much at the Ministry. The Fountain of Magical Brethren didn't do anything, they skipped the part with the brain...it was just, bam! Prophecies! - Sirius didn't get AK'd in the book, did he? I'm sure he didn't. - I thought the memory of James and Snape was a bit too short. - Evanna was perfect, she's a big fan and made her own radish earrings to wear. - There didn't seem to be a negative reaction in the cinema I was in, everyone "oooooh"ed at the kiss though. - PERCY! PERCY!! - CEEEEDRRRIIIIIICCCCC! - Mrs Figg wasn't right.

I went to the midnight showing on the 10th. It was awesome. I loved the movie! I think they did a great job at condensing the book. I think Dumbledore's Army was very well done. I was kind of dissappointed with the Department of Mysteries. There were a lot of good parts: I did love Sirius and Harry fighting together. And I loved Sirius showing up and saying, "Get away from my godson!" I cheered. Also, after Sirius died and everything went silent...I thought that was a nice touch. You see Harry screaming for him, but you hear nothing. Voldemort posessing Harry was really creepy. However, it just didn't flow very well and there could have been more. It was never bad, but I think they could have spent more time on it. I was very pleased with the amount of Harry and Sirius in it. I was afraid there wouldn't be a lot and that would make his death not seem as significant. I was glad to be proven wrong. The one thing I was pissed about was Harry and Dumbledore's ending talk. In the book Harry is screaming and throwing things and completely freaking out. I really wanted to see that and was upset that it was left out. The Harry/Cho kiss was shocking. I thought it was going to be just a short kiss, but there was direction changing and everything. A lot of people were cheering in the theater then. Luna was awesome. Evanna really did a great job at portraying the character. She was exactly how I pictured her. As for acting...Gary Oldman was amazing, as usual. The trio are getting better with each movie. Gambon, while not bad just simply isn't Dumbledore. As a whole it was very well done. I want to see it again.

Yes, I agree - I was waiting for capslock!Harry and it never happened. Bit of a pity, it would have been fun. I want to see it again too.

I've seen it twice now and I agree, they did a good job on condensing the book. I loved Luna in the movie. And Umbridge. Both were brilliant. I went with my friend the first time and she closed her eyes while Harry and Cho were kissing. She opened them and they were still going at it and said "Do they ever STOP?" and covered them again. Okay, did this make anyone else cringe... In the book, I know a spell was used on Sirius and he drifted back into the veil...but it was NOT Avada Kedavra...was it? I really liked the movie though. Both times.

It was not Avada Kedavra, it was a stunning spell (Stupefy) sent by his lovely cousin Bellatrix.

I was pretty sure it wasn't Avada Kedavra. It kinda ticks me off that they used it. I mean, I understand you have to change some details of the book...but her only using stupefy could've been important. *shakes head*

I think they changed it because all the kiddies kept using "stupefy" so they probably wanted it to seem more effective. I don't know. It doesn't really bother me what spell they used; it had the same effect anyway. I loved the movie! It's definitely the best of the films so far. I will admit my view has changed of Gary Oldman as Sirius, he's brilliant. I'm glad they didn't have Harry as angry in the movie as he was in the book because he annoyed me when he was like that in the book. When was that? I think overall they did a good job condensing what needed to be cut out and the lot. There will always be things missing. I think it is as a great movie.

YES! Oh thank god, I knew I wasn't crazy. I was in the cinema with my friend and we were like, "SHE DIDN'T AK HIM! HE JUST FELL BACK!"
The scenes at the Ministry were the most disappointing part of the movie I think.

I thought it was ok. Matt & I took Taylah and when the kiss happened she covered her eyes and went "EWWW mum thats gross!" made the people around us laugh. I think they cut just a bit too much out of the book. I dont think that people that havent read the book would get it all. And whats with making Dudly such a space cadet? That ticked me off. Umbridge was funny/irritating but good overall. And where was Peeves? I love him and was hoping to see what they would do with him, but nothing. Emma was not at her acting best, but still credible. And is it just me or is Harry a hottie? I found it rather disturbing that i was actually perving on him!! He has buffed up heaps... ne thing that pissed me off was the changes: Sirius face in the flames was a hologram this time not a 3d in ashes and the dementors were more skeletal... Minor details like that annoy me. Also, whats with Lucius - who i find rather attractive too... - being the one that broke the prophecy and no St Mungo's visit? I was gunning to see Lockhart again. But all in all not bad

Just got back from the movies and seeing this, and first thoughts - it felt like more of a preperation for the fight to come in the next two movies than a 'regular' HP movies, like the other four. Don't get me wrong, is was anything but bored, but it did feel like it was transporting us to the next level which we will get to in the next two movies and the really big fight against Lord Voldemort. I did enjoy the scene with the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort and Harry, was amazing! And the hunt among the prophecies was, wow! Will leave more thoughts later on, just taking it all in right now

I loved it. I adore Sirius and I hated seeing his death My only major complaint was not seeing Lockhart, everything else I thought was done well, the slight changes worked fine imo. Fred and George's scene when they were rebelling was awesome and so was the fight at the end. Want to see it again already

I *must* see it again. I went to the midnight showing and now that I look back on it I think I was so tired I didn't take in all the details

Some of my thoughts on the film. What was with Dudley's voice? I thought the Dementors were again, very creepy, though we didnt have the Howler/Petunia scene. I was very much looking forward to seeing the small moment when the Dursleys are slightly sucked into the wizarding world. Tonks and Kingsley were perfect for me, though i was mad at first because there was no Lupin taking him to Grimmauld place and though he wouldnt be in the film. But then he poked his head round the door and i was happy again KREACHER!!! Excellent, though his role was far diminished. There was no house cleaning, therefore no locked Horcrux discovery. That leads me to believe that Harry and Dumbledore may actually find the real Locked in the cave in the films. Luna. I was proved wrong about her. She got the dreamy voice down to an art. The Irish lilt that i had never associated with Luna actually made the character work. Harry's moodiness was shown quite well, how he was isolating himself from his friends. Then that moment he realises he cant do it on his own and he asks if he can sit down with them. Will add some more thoughts later ;D

Dudley looked like he had grown a lot, but less fat and more 'big' now. I love Luna in the movie. The Horcrux being missing annoying me, but glossing over Neville's parents annoyed me more. WOuld have liked to have seen them included more, and seen Lockhart too

It was just after the Umbridge/ Trelawny scene in the courtyard. If I had seen Neville's parents I would have burst into tears. Neville is all grown up now! He's actually wearing padding now to make him look chubby.

It sucks that they left Lily out of the Snape's worst memory scene. Especially since we know now that that's WHY it's his worst memory.

The whole flashback into Snape's memories was disappointing. It was hard to really gather any proper information from it. Missing out the trip to St Mungo's was sad. It meant Neville had a monologue to deliver to Harry about it which isnt in Neville's character at all. Also hat is it with Neville replacing Dobby First of all he gives Harry the Gillyweed in film four and then he finds the room of requirement in film five. Maybe in film 6 he will show up having a wrestling match with Kreacher I thought Lucius was interesting in the film. He was much more passive than i thought he might be. Telling everyone to calm down when a fight was looking imminent and then telling Bellatrix that Harry was "just a curious lad" when she got upset by him speaking Voldemorts name. This must be foreshadowing of the softer side we get to see later on

The flashback was way too brief But at least it didn't get cut completely - that would have pissed me off.
