Thought we could do with a thread to explain all things Harry Potter that non-fans like myself don't understand.
My first question: In the first book Harry kills the 'monster' or whatever it is with 'love'. How the hell is that possible and is it just me or it completely out of Sync with the rest of the book?

Well the monster is Voldemort. The reason Voldemort couldn't kill Harry when he was a child is because his mother gave up her life for him which created a kind of magic which Voldemort couldn't penetrate. His death curse backfired on him.
That spell is still around Harry and Voldemort still can not penetrate it and can not even touch Harry without considerable pain.

I just answered this question over there for Allan. A horcrux is an object that holds a part of a wizard's soul. It's how Voldemort has managed to stay alive. He made, in theory, six of them. The process involves ripping the soul violently by murdering another human being. The spell then places that soul into an object. The theory being discussed over there is based on the fact that Dumbledore believed Voldemort was preparing to make his sixth and final horcrux with Harry's death, and had already done the spell work, which could mean a piece of his soul was put into Harry.

Hmm... Is Dumbledore really dead? Now, I know it hasn't been revealed with the new book not out, but what's with all the conjecture leading people to think he's not?

Because that would piss me off. Dumbledore is supposed to be the smartest wizard. And to die that way would be so cheap, imo. I think if he knew he was going to die, that would be a little better, or that he could come back some other way. Not necessarily back to life, but as a ghost or something.
