Firefly MMORPG

Is anyone else as excited about this as I am?

It was due to start beta testing in January of '08 but it's hit a bit of a delay. No word yet on when it's going to be out but some of the early discussions have been pretty interesting. The whole thing will most likely be based on WoW type gameplay.

So...I know I can't wait for it. Anyone else?

There is no word yet on...well...anything really other than that it is happening. I've been trolling the developers forum, but there hasn't been any new information for several months. Mostly what we know is that they are still looking for world developers, which means the people who'll be doing most of the coding and work. We don't even have any concept work yet. Right now it's just a whole lot fans kicking ideas around, but since it's doubtful that the developers are anywhere near the level of creation that these people are talking about (weapons stats and social breakdown and whatnot), it's mostly just a lot of talk to kill the time.

I'll keep you guys posted the moment I find out anything. But dude, we could all form our own guild if we wanted to. I've already got a budding crew built. My captain is a friend from the Dragon*Con staff, is wife is basically our Kaylee, and I'm totally gonna be the Zoe of the crew. I'm so jazzed, and it's still at least a year away.

TYeah, it definitely has potential. Hopefully the game doesn't suck, because there's only so far a name and setting can take these things. Generally, licenced games aren't great, so I'm really hoping that this proves to be the exception to the rule.

Read about this a few months ago and I'm psyched about it!
I enjoyed playing WoW alot and putting that together with one of my absolute favourite verses.. well, you won't see me for weeks after it's been released. At least not on the forum

If I remember correctly it's coming out in the autumn of 2008, at least that's the last I heard, but it could also be my memories failing me as it usually does. Only thing I worry about is that it will be overshadowed by the upcoming Star Trek game which is also in this same style of gaming.

There are also two comic based MMORPGs coming out in a similar timeframe, too - one based on DC comics (Superman, Batman), and one based on Marvel ones (Spider-Man, X-Men). That will be a lot of licenses competing for a similar crowd.

Well, I guess the browncoats gotta start moving to make sure people know about the game coming up and that they actually go for that instead of the others.

I'm actually amazed that Firefly is becoming a game and even more so, this kind of game. Considering how Fox has worked on killing it and it's been some years since the show died and about 2 years since the movie came out, I find it rather impressing that they are putting money into this and actually developing a game like this. Not that I'm not happy about it - just the opposite!

It is surprising, but it's good to see. I guess we can live in hope that it means that the Firefly universe will get more recognition, and we may end up seeing a sequel to Serenity some day. Not that I'm counting on anything.

But hopefully the game will be cool. Even if it's not, there should be some novelty value there, at least. I wonder what the gameplay will be like...

I am so joining. I heard about this a little while ago and I don't care how much money it will cost I am going to do it, lol. I am so excited!!! I can't wait until they bring out previews and such, then the game, eeeeeeee!!!!!

When it comes out we have to all make sure to join the same server though, so we can play together So whoever joins first has to come and tell everyone what the server name is!

Yeah, I'll agree with that - and we can have a KAX guild, assuming there is a guild type thing in the game. Hopefully it'll be released everywhere around the same time - I don't want to have to wait...

Oh there should be Guilds, yes we can have a "Kaxers" guild

im definately gonna be getting this, hope theres an option to play as reavers, it would be fun to go around attacking anyone and everyone

I read about this a while back and then didn't hear anything sense. I had understood it was to be released a lot earlier, though. I guess I misread. It would be interesting to see what the gameplay and set up is like. I don't know if I'd actually join, though. But it's a way off yet, so I have time to change my mind.

I probably wouldn't be able to afford it. But it seems really cool. I'd want to be River to kick Paul's ass as a Reaver. If you can do that.

I doubt it will have the actual characters, or those characters will turn up as NPCs. If its like WOW style play there will be two sides in the FF universe - most likely the Alliance and Browncoats, and you'd be able to play as one or the other.

Hmm... That would be interesting, but I guarantee that people playing Browncoats will outnumber the alliance 50:1
