What shows had brilliant finales, and what made them great? On the other hand, what shows finales were disappointing, and didn't live up to your expectations?

I loved the Gilmore Girls finale. All the Stars Hollow people there! Except Rory should have ended up with Logan.
I liked the Friends one, Buffy was really good.

I am usually dissapointed with my favourites shows Finales, I think they should end on a happy note, and have a big battle!, I liked the BTVS because it did that fantastically, a happy ending but characters still died it wasnt all treacle & Honey, I disliked Angels, to me it was a cheap way of ending the show, I disliked SG1's , cant think of anymore at the moment.

The Buffy finale copped a bit of flack, but I thought it worked. Aside from the ubervamps suddenly becoming easy to kill, I thought the ending was great - it kept true to the theme of empowerment, and Buffy wasn't "alone" any more.
As for Angel, I really liked the finale. A big theme of the show is that it's a never ending battle, and Angel lose any hope of being human and living a normal life when he signed away the Shanshu. Angel's finale was great, in that it just showed that they'll keep on fighting to the end. Though, with its cancellation, I suspect it isn't how they intended to end the series.

I quite liked both Angel and Buffy's finales. Firefly's wasn't good but that wasn't really a finale Honestly I can't think of many finales

I really liked Buffy's and Angel's finales. I think they were both pretty epic and fitting. I count Serenity (movie) as Firefly's finale, so that was pretty good, too. Lost's better be good or I'll be very upset.

I can't think of any finales except Buffy's and Angel's. I haven't yet watched Gilmore Girls finale and I wasn't to thrilled about the Friends one. The one finale that sticks out in my mind is Angel's. I thought it was a really good (but annoying) finale.

Obviously this hasn't happened yet, but I think The Simpsons finale will be hard to do - it will have to be the best episode ever.

I don't think it would need to be the best, to be honest. I think it would just need to be different, and work as a goodbye and thank you to fans. If they concentrate on it being the best episode ever, it would inevitably disappoint.

Angels finale is fine if you are actually an Angel fan. If you arent a fan and just watched the show (Like Me) it was rather poor but against the buffy finale (I have said this before) they balance each other out, useless if you dont neccesarily like angel all that much . Stargate finished after 10 seasons, and they are planning releasing 2 straight to dvd movies a year that will be like standalone episodes, Shows dont have to finish when they 'finish' Movies as finales are a favourite of mine (though I cant think of Many either) .

I thought the Sex and the City finale was perfect. Thats why i was pissed off when i first heard about the movie Friends was good. They did what they had to do and people were happy. The West Wing was very dignified. Thats the best word for it The thing i wanted to happen for seven years (ie. Josh and Donna) had already happened so whatever went down i was fine with.... Dawson's was alright. It would have been better if Dawson died instead of Jen. Moron he was Pacey and Joey were together so that was good. Beverly Hills 90210 was great Donna and David getting married. Kelly and Dylan getting it together after 10 long, and sometimes painful, years. I liked both the Buffy and Angel ones. I like the ambiguity of Angel - its really a choose your own ending in some ways.

I cant remember anyone dying in Dawsons creek, but I am glad they didnt put Joey and Dawson back together!.
I missed the Friends finale, I thought it finished a few episodes before it actually did. It was a happy ending I gather?

Jen died. It was actually kind of sad No one wanted Joey and Dawson together. And how could anyone not want Pacey?!?! Yeah Friends was a happy ending. Monica and Chandler had twins. Phoebe was married and planning on having kids. And Ross and Rachel were back together. Joey was just Joey and didn't really have an 'ending', hence why they spun him off.

I thought Friends finale was pretty predictable. Didn't have any surprise which I thought would have been nice to have.
Is there any finales that you're looking forward to the most? I can't wait to see how LOST ends. I hope it's as good as it's billing up to be.

I remember thoroughly enjoying the Friends finale, but really don't remember the details. I guess it just wasn't something I'd call memorable. I'm not looking forward to any finales in particular, that tends to wait until the show's about to finish. And for all we know (and I hope Bre doesn't smite me for this ), Lost could turn to crap before we get to that stage.

Buffy and Angels finals were fanastic! I had no complaints. The West Wing ended perfectly with Matts takeover. Frinds was good and at the time I was really excited but I ended up missing most of it because of Xander.
Alias ended great, if not a little early but I really liked how they made the running themes all tie together, couldn't have asked for a better ending with so much being answered

I would watch the lost finale, just for the sake of it. I haven't watched LOST since season 2 finished, so no doubt I wouldn't understand it, but the storyline for Lost just makes you imagine how great the finale could be.
