When you think about classic movies, what movies come to mind? Not necessarily movies you love, but ones you think fall under that category? And what movies are classics to you but don't really fall under that category?

12 Angry Men, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Annie Hall, Metropolis, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Casablanca, Psycho, Citizen Kane, It's a Wonderful Life, Apocalypse Now, Ben Hur, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Dr. Strangelove, The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz, A Streetcar Named Desire and Roman Holiday.
There's definitely a bunch more I can't remember, but those are what comes to mind right now. I haven't seen most of those movies.

Classics to me include, The Godfather saga, The Wizard of Oz, The Seventh Seal, Metropolis, Citizen Kane, most Scorsese and Kubrick films. It bugs me when people will force themselves to like a movie just because it is considered "classic". My brother, for example, doesn't admit he is like that, but it is so obvious. I'll ask him what he liked about a movie and he'll either stumble or say something a critic said about it, almost word for word. The Lord of the Rings trilogy might not be considered a classic yet, but I know someday it will be, but that to me is the most classic movie ever.

I think LoTR will be at some point, too. I think it'll be basically considered this decade's Spartacus. From the sheer scale, rather than a similar plot (though, seeing Kirk Douglas take on Saruman would have been amusing. )

When I think classic movies, I think movies that are in black and white. But classic movies for me are One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The Sound of Music. Though I have to admit that I have never really watched most of the movies that are generally considered classics.

Liz already included all of mine, though I'd add Gigi to the list. (I'm not sure it was necessary for it to be a musical, though.)
What movies are out now--or have been out recently--that you think will be considered classics in the future (or maybe already are?)?

I wouldn't class those in the same category as other classics. Or any other Disney Classics... they are more 'Kid' classics to me.

Lol anything that gets referenced to today is considered a classic to me. Black Beauty, The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. Lol anything I find at my grandparents. Monty Python too.

So will Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I would like to think that Serenity will become a classic but it would probably will be among Jossverse fans in my opinion.

I don't know that Batman Begins will be considered classic. I think The Dark Knight might be because it's Heath Ledger's last big thing but the more I watch it, the more boring it gets. Maybe it's because I've seen it so many times. And it's hard to tell with Inception. I think The Departed will be a classic.
