Have you ever seen any ? Do you watch them regularly ? Are there some you particularly like ? Do you own any stuff about them (CDs, DVDs, manga or whatever) ?
I have grown up with them. Back in the '70s and '80s, Italy imported and dubbed lots of them. In my humble opinion, many are superior and have far better stories than today's cartoons. (especially the older ones, even if technically they are lower-quality when compared to modern productions).
Today, Italy no longer imports so many of them, but I actually don't care that much because I don't like the latest ones as much as I did like the ones I saw when I was a kid.

I don't like them and I don't get the fascination for them. A lot of my Chinese friends are into it - they buy the books and the DVDs, etc.

You don't like them, Irene ? You don't know what you are missing! ;D (just joking ) I think you might change your mind about them if you saw the right ones Though obviously it's basically a matter of personal taste Maybe you just don't like cartoons ? Or prefer the Disney ones ?

Oh I like cartoons. It's just that Japanese anime is not my kind of cartoon. I just don't like the genre of it. Not my type.

I have lots of posters/wallpapers in my room ;D I'll try to find pictures online of them so I can show them to you guys Unfortunately they are way too big to scan them myself with my scanner (which is extremely slow too by the way, being an old model...). Liz, what does your brother like ? Why don't you like them ? Are you just not into it, like Irene ?

If Pokemon counts, I like Pokemon.

Oh yes, it does count Bre Pokemon is one of the relatively new ones though, and it is based on a card game (I think). Nintendo made a lot of money out of it The cartoon is cute, but it's loooooong, lol... IMHO it's main flaw is that it gets really repetitive in the long run. I don't know many anime that have been dubbed in english and/or have been broadcasted on TV... most of the ones that I saw back when I was a kid would be unknown to you... One that has been partially dubbed in english is Sailor Moon... anyone knows what I am talking about ? ;D

My hubby likes some of the older ones, which is why we have Akira and Ninja Scroll. We have a small store here that sells manga and anime so when we go on our next raid he wants to find some of the ones he used to watch as a kid, like Voltron. Me, I like the newer ones and I can't believe I was silly enough to miss Nuku Nuku (Catgirl) off my list.

Let's start with some videos ;D Here is one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pj4hhlV6eYThis one is called "Trider G7" ;D It's one of the MANY robot-based anime from the 1980s ;D And here is another: www.youtube.com/watch?v=awuIl8GN7g8This one is called "Great Mazinger" ;D Another robot obviously I just loooooved this one when I was a kid, LOL The music is not the original Japanese one, it's the italian opening intro. Back in the day, every time an anime was imported and dubbed, the TV channels used to create a dedicated italian opening intro for it. Sometimes the original japanese music was kept and the words translated/replaced but most of the times a whole new music was composed. Today, this is almost no longer done and the original japanese intros are kept. While it may seem weird today and not a good idea to alter the original japanese cartoon, this habit gave Italy some of the most gorgeous opening themes ever created! Some of them have become so popular that they are part of my generation's culture now and they get played in the discos because everyone my age recognizes them and still enjoys them! ;D I'll look for more videos
