Character Pairs

I am finally catching up on my Signal podcasts from 2009 and was just listening to a segment on character pairs--not necessarily romantic pairs, but pairs of opposites (or, perhaps, a pair that seem opposite but are rather full of similarities, like Inara and Book).

For example, Zoe and Jayne, are both the muscle of the group. However, Zoe is more moral than Jayne; she is the disciplined one due to her military background and she is in a stable relationship, while Jayne, well, isn't. ( --> Jayne when a pretty girl comes along.)

I don't want to post the others that the podcast mentions, because I want to hear your thoughts. Who are some other character pairs that really make the show what it is?

Mal and Zoe - the military pair.

Simon and Book - the healers, one spiritual and one medical.

I completely forgot about my own thread!

Inara and Simon are both caregivers. Simon, obviously, works to take great care of his sister, but also the physical needs of the others on the ship. Inara does so more in an emotional way. She treats Kaylee rather like a sister, for example.

Wash and Kaylee - the outisiders of the group but are the two main people in making Serenity stay in the sky.

Kaylee and River - to me they are both like the "kids" or "little sisters" of Serenity. Kaylee is Mal's 'little sister' and they treat each other in that manner, and River is obviously Simons.
