Remakes are meant to be different than the original. He could have lived. Beck, I found the movie entertaining, but not as great as you all seem to think. Maybe because it just all seemed so rushed and unbelievable. Like Sebastian changing and like you said, Annette gave up her virginity pretty quick after writing her manifesto.

The movie wouldn't have worked at all if he had though. Would Annette have exposed his dirty secrets while alive? Would he have allowed it or forgiven her for it?

It's not a remake mate, it's an adaptation. The original story is set in the 1700's.
It's a story about morality and redemption. Not a fuzzy story with a happy ending. If Sebastian had lived and gone off in the sunset with Annette it simply would not have worked. To have any impact the redeemed character had to die. Just like Vicomte de Valmont.

Totally agree. She had some good moments, like making him laugh in the car, but mostly she was a total wet blanket. And she turned around on her chastity vow pretty darn quick despite her "protests" about it! Yeah that bugged me too. But if it was someone like Sebastian wooing me, I would have given it up that quickly too! Hehe. Same here. ;D As for Sebastian dying...I agree that he had to for the movie to work. Like Loz said, he died saving Annette and that redeemed his character. I just wanted him to live because he was too pretty to die! Plus, it would be interesting to see how he and Annette try to plot to bring Kathryn down.

Oh I don't disagree that he should have died. The ending was probably my favorite part of the movie. That, and when Annette made him laugh!

We had never seen it before and We did not enjoy it. The acting was mostly terrible, the characters were not believable and We found the story boring. Sarah Michelle Gellar's character was the only one slightly interesting and even her acting was off at times.

Wow I don't think I've spoken to anyone that didn't like Cruel Intentions It isn't supposed to be a serious movie with fabulous acting though. Why was the story boring?

I watched it with my dearest last night, and not having seen it in awhile, i don't think its aged all that well. I'm not sure why though But i still like it i have to say. Not as much as when i was 19, but it has some great moments. Everything with Blaine, Katherine and her little "Down boy" bit, Sebastian and Annette's fight (though my interest in that was that they were together in real life i think. Remember Reese saying she cracked up after shooting that scene), the little bit where Sebastian is shooting and his aunt rides up and he mutters "Oh f**k me" to himself, spins around with a big grin and goes, "Aunt Helen!! Oh i've missed you!!!" Cracks me up every damn time And like i said before i like the escalator moment and scene after.

All of my favourite bits were Sebastion bits too I think I loved the opening scene with the therapist, great start to the movie imo and lets you know right off the bat what he is like. What were everyone else's favourite moments?

Favourite moments: - the escalator scene - Cecile getting pushed off everything - the last scene where Kathryne walks out of the school and finds everyone with the journal - the scene where Sebastian breaks up with Annette - and most of Sebastian and Kathryn scenes together (especially when plotting something). That's all I can think of at the moment.
