Recently, TV shows have opted to do without the traditional opening credits and go with just flashing the title of the show, with a short 'jingle'. I don't like it!  I prefer having your traditional opening credits with a theme song and introducing your regular characters. So do you prefer shows with or without the opening credits? Does it make a difference? |

Lost started it all. But that type of title fits Lost. If Lost had a theme song, it probably would be too cheesy and wouldn't work for the show. I don't really care about opening credits but I do love it though when I can sing along with it. Rescue Me has good opening credits. |

I like having a little something that starts the show. Something more than just a logo. "Burn Notice" has Michael's voiceover. Not a theme song, necessarily, but something that starts up the show and let's you know what you're in for. Come to think of it, "Xena" 's was a voiceover, too. So, for me, it doesn't have to be a song. It could be a voiceover or music without words, but it has to have something a bit longer than a "jingle" to set the show up.

Flashforward had a voiceover too! Shows that used to have a proper credits are cutting it down - like Grey's, Desperate Housewives, One Tree Hill. But I do notice that most shows, if not all, on FOX have proper opening credits. Or is it just me?  |

The only show I watch on FOX is "Bones," so I wouldn't know anything about that. Most of the shows I watch have at least more than a "jingle," so I'm pretty happy with that. But I do agree that the number of shows with a true theme song are few and far between these days. The times, they are a-changin'...

From the FOX shows I've watched, all of the have theme songs so I'm just wondering.
House, Bones, Dollhouse, American Idol, The Simpsons, Firefly...these are all I can remember right now.

I don't pay a lot of attention to opening credits, I skip them most of the time as I mostly watch episodes on dvd. The True Blood one annoys me as I don't like the song Most shows i watch have the introduction scene and then the credits, then back to the show. |

Do yo have a favourite opening credits? Mine would be:
Angel
Veronica Mars (both though I prefer season 1 and 2's verison of the song but how season 3's credits was done)
Friday Night Lights
Boston Public
Roswell
Charmed
House
And I wished shows like Grey's, One Tree Hill kept their opening credits.

I hate True Bloods opening. Firefly's is the best one, I also loved the Atlantis one.

I love the music from TB's opening. I also quite like the Desperate Housewives opening, though they have sped the music up, and shortened it considerably.

IMO the best credits are The West Wing and Friday Night Lights (both by W.G Snuffy Walden) and Firefly. Angel's title music is good too. Big Bang's is catchy, I like old school One Tree Hill and I still have a soft spot for "I'll be there for You" True Blood's one suits the show and I can't imagine anything else there but it's a shite song  |

Agreed! I usually skip over credits, but Dexter's is just so Dexter. I like Sex and the City's opening credits too. It really gets me in the mood for the show. |
