I know a couple of people are allergic to nuts, but does anyone else have any food allergies? I mean real allergies too, not telling people you are allergic because you dont' like something Do you have bad reactions to some foods that you don't quite call an allergic reaction?

I have a wheat intolerance. I haven't eaten wheat/gluten in a while now, and feel so much better.

I think I might too, Liz. Paul has celiac disease so he can't have any gluten. Obviously this means I've cut back, too. I do notice that when I do have wheat after not eating any for a while I get an upset stomach. Apparently gluten sensitivity is pretty common!

Yeah, it gives me a really upset stomach I do miss it, but I don't miss feeling yuck. Worse thing is when it's hiding in stuff - I can't have soy sauce.

It's very common. They claim because of how foods have changed, more processed and more shortcuts. Easy to miss to. I am only allergic to Peanuts. I found this out when I was 10 and ate peanuts at school (this was before the huge sweep of no peanuts in school ) and they called my mother because I complained I couldn't breathe properly. My throat was really swollen.

Don't you love that you couldn't breathe so they just called your mum, not an ambulance or something!! Imagine if that happened now

Yep, I'm using tamari now. Ah omg Nico! Oh poor you, no peanut butter A while back I thought I was lactose intolerant, must have been the gluten though as it didn't improve when I eliminated it!

I had to try a gluten free diet for a few months to see if it helped my fibromyalgia. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it didn't help. I have a couple of mild allergies and intolerances with food.

Yeah GF isn't too bad. I do prefer GF pasta now (it's usually really good when it's a mix of a bunch of flours). I have yet to find a really good GF bread though.

Yeah, when you are meant to carry an epipen, I think it's a bit higher on the classification scale than mild my dear.

I miss Genius bread! The gluten free bread available in Australia really only tastes okay when it's toasted I have had some very nice GF mince pies, though.

One of the girls coming to Ella-Rose's sleepover tonight is egg and dairy free so I made my first dairy free, egg free cake today. Checking each individual ingredient for no traces of milk was a bit frustrating. Must be hard for those of you who are allergic to milk or nuts doing basic shopping Do you find it hard to find certain items?

I don't know about those allergies, but grocery shopping gluten-free was really tough at first. Checking every ingredient in certain items. Now that it's also a "fad diet" (which confuses the hell out of me), it makes it easier to shop because a lot of stuff advertises if it's gluten-free.

It isn't a problem when you are used to it.

Do you have to check for the "may contain traces" too? I did that and I was very careful and then I was told those are ok.

For us, if it ever says may contain wheat, we skip it and just assume it has wheat.

Yeah I won't eat anything that may contain nuts. I wasn't as bothered when I was younger but now it is too much of a risk.
